... all the things I type out and then delete. Sometimes it is therapeutic to write it out, and then to delete it. It might be relevant, but TMI.

Yep. I've written replies back to my former Boss, waited a day before deleting and rephrasing to reflect more of my region's beliefs.

There are social mechanisms in widespread and common use that permit folks - including stupid folks - to survive and even thrive. Those mechanisms work best, in public anyway, when practicing Awareness & Reticence. That boils down to: Eyes & Ears Open, Mouth Mostly Shut.

Not going to even touch on other survival mechanisms, 'cause it gets complicated quick.

Another way if putting it:

God gave us two ears and one mouth and they should be used in the same proportion.

Pro por shun - that's at least one syllable too many, Lazy L. We need to keep the words simple, even when the thoughts behind them aren't. The pen isn't 'more powerful than the sword' if it misses the target. The wisdom in H&CL may be 'going viral'. Millions of needy people may be hanging on your every word.
[Dammit, I just scared myself.]

When in a restaurant or in line at the cashier of a store and someone is talking too loudly I always join the conversation and confront their ideas. Most people will avoid confrontation at all costs and they speak softly so I can't continue. It's rude to join a conversation but not as rude as subjecting everyone to your stupid thoughts on life and relationships. I always walk away smiling and my understanding wife just giggles at me.

Sheepdog, I'm pretty sure we could find stuff to argue about. I do enjoy "exchanging views". Not standing in a checkout line though.

I've said things here I regretted later. I say things I shouldn't sometimes. What you and others don't see is all the things I type out and then delete. Sometimes it is therapeutic to write it out, and then to delete it. It might be relevant, but TMI.

I do the same thing Weedy, type it out then delete it. [ seems my reply keeeps adding or deleting what I write]

It never lasts long because when you begin a confrontational discussion in their "private" discussion they shut up.
You have shown that you are not afraid of the confrontation and they are not usually prepared. Sometimes they say, "I wasn't speaking to you." or something like that but you just come back with, "You are loud enough for everyone to hear so I thought you were open for a debate." I really like announcing my discomfort for stupid people. My vocabulary allows me to compliment someone in a way that sounds derogatory or have them looking forward to going where I think they are headed.

I think you have reached the point where you finally realize the rest of the world really is THAT stupid, shallow, meaningless, and you look back over the years at how far the U.S. has gone downhill, and just want to crawl in your own hole somewhere and say the hell with the rest of the world. When you're the only sane, rational, person in sight, yep, makes ya grumpy. Welcome to the club of "old timers" that are the last of their kind.......

You forgot " red neck ,white socks and Blue Ribbon Beer."
I take "red neck" to refer to what the sun does, not what anger does. Farmers and husbandmen all over the world are susceptible to red necks, if their pigmentation allows it.
Including those Canadian farmers who may prefer that other brand of Blue.

Indeed it is!
Very hard to be grumpy down there.

Sad but true ,it does seem like " the last of their kind ". like the song says' Who gonna fill their shoes '?

Of course, I heard my dad say that same thing about his generation when talking about "we hippies" would lead the country into ruination.
But we didn't screw things up that bad, now did we:).
And yes, he was a grumpy old man, so it's in my DNA too along with the colon-cancer stuff:rolleyes:.

SuperV most hippies were just the youth of the times rebelling against past generations rules.
Some were more dangerous and placed to disrupt our social structure. It actually started with the Beatnics of the 50s.
"If it feels good do it " " and why don't we do it in the road' was not exactly the American way but it is now. " Freedoms just another word for nothing else to lose " [ Bobby McGee] a kind of parady.
I liked the music but didn't like their anti family, nation and morality. But then I was married and trying to have a family during those times. All the free sex was very costly as was the drug culture. I saw some terrible overdose's and even saw one scream himself to death in an E.R second worse thing I'd ever seen and heard.

Most hippies were just kids having fun sowing wild oats though. I married a rooster who couldn't resist all the free "love" in the streets and everytime I was having a baby so were one of them.He had 7 kids only 3 ere with me in 2 1/2 years so it wasn't fun to me and it sure wasn't free being married during that time or today when morals went out the window.
But the music was fun and in some ways so were the times.

Nearly everything you said could apply to the current generation. Except they have such better contraception and some are confused finding the right aperture, so it's much less of a problem for them:rolleyes:
(Wow! 7 kids in 2-1/2 years:eek: And I thought we got around:rolleyes:),
My point was, it's pretty hard for 'us' hippies to cast dispersions on the current generation given our past history you just mentioned above. We were NOT a good examplegaah.
The good news: most of them spend 90% of their time playing with their i-doodles instead of each other.:D

Not condemning all of it SuperV, just talking about the times and how fast things can change.
I was coming of age at the tail end of the ' Hope Chest Girls ' who most 'tried ' to save themselves for the wedding night. So it was a culture shock to some of us. We would save our money to buy something for our future home, like silverware, bed clothing, dinnerware, etc, etc, etc, and put it in our cedar chest usually at the end of our beds. Our youth revolved around marriage and family. Of course lots of back alley abortions then too so it wasn't all roses. never was nor will be a perfect time or generation. As I said ' I liked some of the hippies they were funny at times. but in the end not a one of those 7 kids had a father at home, mine or theirs .

But we had some good music back then both rock and country, which I was partial to rock but also liked soem C&W. If I had of made it to Woodstock I probably would have been rolling in the mud with the best of them, it was fun as a kid .

My personal humble opinion is that you're not anymore grumpier than anybody else.
Everybody gets grumpy, everybody gets the blues.
It's just how we individually deal with it the stupidity, rudeness that sometimes affects each and everyone of us.
I personally think most of today's generation is ate up with the dumb a**.
But that's just my opinion.
I would much rather be home with Strawberry, then be be with idiots in public.
I try not to hate most people, but unfornutately I look at a few and have to wonder how they are still alive.
Somebody should have beaten stupid out of you a long time ago.
I too have dealt with the stupid portion of the public for many years in my career.

Well, I can tell you one thing....
I'm gonna continue being. A grumpy old fart...cause now I know I gotta lots of company..
:D

Don't let the friendly look on my face, to the left, fool you, it really doesn't take much to turn me into a grumpy old AH. You ought to see how fast people try to get away from me if I'm yelling at some fool driving while using a cell phone, I've got a good memory as to the times people have dang near run me off the road while they were yacking on a cell phone. I even get evil thoughts about mounting train rails around my vehicle as a grand deterrent against them running into me. And all this is on my good days. I try to warn people, especially adding age to my ancestry which is 1/2 Norwegian and a little Sioux, that our old habits were not good for our enemies.
