i cant stand the Dainty Moore, Beef stew my self.to me,it's like eating some bad dog food.pluss thats one change in diet i dont want now or in a worst case scenario.on account,it'll go right through me..

I also like the idea of making food myself, instead of buying meals fully prepared. I cook in my daily life, so it come natural. This is true, even if buying canned foods. It's far better to buy canned beef, veggies, etc., then make beef stew or soup, than it is to buy a can of Dinty Moore, Beef stew. That stuff is like 70% potatoes. I bought one can of it and will buy no more. I feel the same way about foods marketed to preppers. If you look at them, they are mostly grains or grain products, like pasta. I can buy a box of pasta, or bags of rice, or flour. I don't see what is special about the prepper food. They just amount to overly priced ramen noodles, which I do have some of.
Dingy more tastes like dog food as well.... I'm not very familiar with the pre made stuff but hear lots of the pre made dehydrated pouch meals are good tasting now. Wallmart sells some in their camping supply. I'll pick one up soon and try it just to see. I also want to see the ingredients, like salt and preservatives. The prices aren't terrible at 5 or 6 bucks a meal. There also really light and small for an emergency bag. For the house, I really like preparing my own stuff too. Since I don't plan to bug out, I'm ok with food stored in larger and heavier containers.

Though one of the benefits of specially packaged freeze dried foods is it's long term storage 20-25yrs that maintains a certain level of calories and nutritional value. My primary source of food is the garden and live stock, if for some reason we get in a rut and not able to produce from the gardens in a shtf situation then the freeze dried goods is our insurance, so, a one time purchase for a 25yrs insurance policy isn't really bad ;) Diversifying one's approach is never a bad idea.

Even dog food taste good when on the brink of starvation, I do believe modern humans have become spoiled, we shouldn't compare our taste for a good meal to that of survival. When hungry primal instinct kicks in when the choices are very limited so in good times we shouldn't judge the taste of foods including can goods. I tested some of my can goods preps link below;

Amen. It easy to be picky in good times. When I was a teenager I had to pilfer oranges from a grove for a week. Still don't really love oranges to this day. Now before you feel all sorry for me I should probably tell you I spent my grocery money on beer! Stupid little s__t.... That was the closest I've ever been to really hungry. I can only imagine how bad it would be to not have anything at all.
