I saw that about their water on last nights news. Seems it's from an algae bloom. I'll be honest, if you look at all the trash and oil in most of the waterways in the world, who wants to drink it anyways! It is scary when boiling dosent help. I just hope there were some of us crazy preppers there that hade some stores of water saved for stuff like this.

Again a good reason to have organic filters that will take toxins and other contaminants out of the water. A good Berkey or home-made filter would do the trick. Also living by the "3's"...I always have about 20 cases of bottled water and 10 large 5 gallon of spring water stocked.

As for why..no surprise they get it from the river and from Lake Erie...both of which have really bad toxin levels from the heavy industry in the North East. I still think they have a rule on how much fish you can eat, but that rule was back in the 70's, when I lived up there, I haven't recently researched it, but sure it would be in place.

yeah i heard some about it on the news as well.even boiling it wont help..and thats all the more reason for keeping bottled water on hand..i wonder how many ppl failed to get water from the stores and all..

There is a AirForce base not far from here that has one of the biggest wind tunnel's in the World for testing air craft parts . One year they had a spill that killed a whole creek that I had fished in for years that was full of big waleye , large and small moth bass , red horse , cat fish . Over the years they poisioned part of a large river by flushing thier retention pond so they could pass enviromental test so now there is a do not eat catfish warning for that part of the river . It is in a very rural place some parts are like a wilderness area no built up or urban area touches it but it is now contamanated . I questioned a couple of people that work there and got the same responce . Well we won the race to space and the cold war .

More than likely the ones that preach how paranoid we are.

There was a company in my hometown that dumped some really toxic wastes in a retention pond on their property. The EPA said it was ok. The problem is the pond was connected to a chain of three lakes by a small overgrown canal. WTHeck? Wonder how much it took to bribe the EPA guy. Same thing, I ate lots of bluegill out of those lakes. Now there's a ban on eating anything from there. When will man get smart enough to not piss in the pond he's swimming in?
