I'm seeing Yellowstone series on tv showing up..anybody watch it? If so, is it worth getting into watching? At least decent entertainment?
Yes and yes. A bit dramatic but, entertaining.

Never heard of it.

I personally like 1883 with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw even better! It is the Dutton family back story of how they got the Yellowstone ranch.

Thanks for that info..I will check it out...never heard of it before! Boy am I behind the times!

We do not watch TV but, had heard of this and sounded interesting so was able to stream it to the TV set. Kept us coming back each season so I would say it is worth watching.

I like the series. It makes me think about life here.
My wife despises Kevin Costner and won’t watch it after inaccuracies in the first 5 minutes of season 1 episode 1. It is not how you put a horse down.

The Executive producers of the show own the 4 sixes ranch here in Texas. The 4 sixes was the largest non-contiguous ranch in the US at 260,000 acres currently. It was once 3/4 of a million acres. They were instrumental in bringing about the breed of horse known as Quarter Horses and founding of the AQHA.

I have one of their ranch used horses, grandson of Playgun, hall of fame cutter.

I don’t know she hates Costner she thinks Dance with Wolves was the best thing he ever did. I thought it was the worst overacted film. I thought field of dreams was great.
@rainingcatzanddogs my ranch was never part of but adjoined the Apperson ranch. WRHearsts mother. Slim Pickens was a ranch hand and helped on my ranch in the 40’s.

Me too.

Some interesting (to me, anyhow) trivia about the show 1883. James Dutton carries a rifle that appears to be a Winchester model 1885. (which would be anachronistic if it is)
However, John Browning designed the rifle in 1878, and Browning made 600 "Model 1878s" in his father's gunsmithing shop in Odgen Utah, before Winchester bought the rights to it in 1883 (but didn't produce them until 1885). So there is a remote possibility that what he was carrying was a Browning model 1878, which would not be anachronistic. I was hoping for some kind of clue in the series which it was, but never saw one.
The reason that caught my eye is because I have modern reproductions of the gun, a Browning "B78" named after the model 1878, and two 1885s.

Way off the topic-but interesting to Winchester. How William Winchester’s wife Sarah dealt with the deaths from his repeating firearm.
Been here. Very interesting.

I am going to try and find the 1883 show/series and start there. I did not know about that. I don't watch much TV other than the crap on news, food network, a few documentaries now and then anymore and I am done with the news BS channels across the board. I'd like to start from very beginning and follow from there if I get into the Yellowstone series. Sounds interesting and entertaining.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am up for finding it and watching it all!

They did cast interviews about how the directors tried to keep it as authentic as possible. In the scenes where they were in Fort Worth, it was actually filmed in the cattle district of Fort Worth. They threw dirt on the streets...the cast all had to take riding lessons and spent long days in the saddle.

Don't know many actors or actresses these days that would be willing to put up without a shower for days and pooping in the woods!
