You can order strep and flu kits for about $50 to keep at home. If you use one, and it comes out positive, the cost includes a doctor consult where they can prescribe something.

Sounds like a good idea. There are 1000's of things like this. You don't need a doctor, a simple test will answer if you have an issue. We have enough information out there to break down one of a few causes. And a quick test will decide which of them. The doctor doesn't do much more than exactly this. Then he prescribes something, and your bill won't be $50 (maybe your 'copay'? and maybe more). It's good for doc's to have some competition. Actually it's even better if it frees up docs to see patients with some serious issues.

Actually this could be a model for dealing with all the druggies/homeless who clog up hospitals. Put them in a phone booth with a screen that walks them through everything. It takes blood pressure, weight, heartbeat. It can take pictures of 'areas of interest' (infection...). Take their fingerprint/retina/scan IDs to identify the person. And then a doc in India can come on & diagnose the problem. If they want something better, pull out a credit card.
