I have no children and no grandchildren, I have tried to help non preppers think about prepping but all seem to be like wife's cousin a town councillor in another county who says " nothing bad will ever happen so lets not discuss it" so we don't! i'm afraid that is also the attitude of 99.9% of the general public in the UK.
so now its just me and mine and to hell with the sheeple.

bigpaul, I'm hoping that you will not be embittered and rancorous because of your konwledge, accurate observations and situation around you. It's not easy even here to talk with people about threats and crisis situations. Everything changed when Russians has enter the Ukraine, folks began to fear. Lots of paramilitary movements has shown, even ex GROM operators were opened their school for civilians. Mostly younger take part of this, lots of middle-aged but still it;s hard to talk with many people.
About present times I remind myself bit old story form Charlie Brooker "Aspiration is it worth it?"

Back at UK (although problem is common for many European countries) it's not easy and it won't be. If so called refugees or any emigrants from third world know that UK or Germany has social politics with free money (for doing completely nothing!) they will come with whole families. Poland is to poor for that kind of distribution of money (thanks God) and lots of muslims brought here form Syria were left to Germany, for free money. That's the real reason why we have this problems with violence, crimes and so on...

we had some immigrants reported on the news this morning, they try to get across the English Channel from France in flimsy rubber boats, some make it but a lot drown in the rough seas, its also a major shipping route and the big ships cant see these little boats .

On one side, everyone deserves something they think is "better", on the other side no-one has the right to just stick out his hand and get more that the persons in whatever land who have worked and paid taxes for generations....where do you draw the line and can still be able to look in the mirror??GP

just remember these people haven't come through the legal ways, they are ILLEGAL immigrants who have paid people smugglers to get them where they want to go.

That is THE question, where the hell do they get $ 10,000 to pay their way if they has such a bad life where they are coming from?? AND if it was /is sooooo bad there, where in Gods name are their mothers/fathers/wives/children ?? Did they just leave them there in the so called "hell" which they are crying about where home is ??
One Egyptian doctor came here not too long ago and since he had studied in Germany and was so well qualified, he is now the head-honcho in the Diakonie hospital in Stuttgart...Ok, exception to the rule. I know not many others though...

many of their qualifications don't apply here, I know of a doctor( I think he was Serbian but I might be wrong) who had to work as a hospital porter because his qualifications were different to British ones.

And it's ok. Every country has standards and when you apply to live and work you need to adapt first and later upgrade skills or qualifications. We've got Syrian hematologist in blood donation station - he speaks polish (accent is not important) and I'm sure that he knows what he's doing. Otherwise can't get the job. Also in local hospitals works three doctors from Africa and their are pro, people likes them and there's no hate or racism like western Europe media claim (one of them is living in village close to mine so I know that he has any problem with locals). On the other hand this month police hunting for organized group of Gypsys that assault people pikcing wild mushrooms. One old man or woman or man with family can't risk his life with group of strong men. Good and bad people. The worst are people with pretension, which claims that "they deserve" something.

very much right YerbaMate. I am not, was not and will never be racist. I do not mind homosexuals, but I hate the idea of them having a lobby to promote their way of life.
I do not mind vegan, just do not think the rest of the world has to think like you, we also have a free will. I have nothing against the people who have jewish, black or any other background, just show me your whipmarks, chainmarks or serial number from Hitler, then I will feel terribly for you, the jews in Germany and the slaves around the world suffered the worst. Lots of people are prepping but they just not called it prepping. It's like tradition to gather jars with food stuff in our basements, spare parts, candles and so on but modern times creating CONSUMERS even in my coutry. COOL to have new smartphone, COOL to party in pub, eating in restaurant, relax in all inclusive hotel, it's so fking COOL that's makes me sick. Society is getting soft and lazy. Too much TV, plastic music and stupid celebrities saying what's COOL. Plastic spirit of the age...
We are not better than anyone, we just still have more fuel in blood and like to fight.

Yup lots of homesteaders, small holders and ordinary folk in rural areas are preppers by default. I wrote on this very forum of how in the 70s and 80s we westerners laughed at the poles, czechs, romanians, hungarians etc who still had millions of citizens with wood fired heating systems, were growing their own food, working with their neighbours to take care of themselves. We in the west were so smug, until we realised that those smallholders, micro farmers etc were actually in a much better position than us in the west, THEY relied upon themselves WE were utterly reliant on the system..... we had F**KED up big time. Now you see many westerners who can afford to moving to the east of Europe or the Middle of the US to become as offgrid and self reliant as they can.

I'm aware of that, it's don't bother me. There's many roads you can follow in your life and after so many difference we just meet here and share our thoughts. Quite similar thoughts.
