Now that I'm out on the road working during the days I'm eating a lot more fast food. Yesterday I ate at a place called Shane's barbecue. It was awesome, and I split the sampler platter with my wife who went with me for the day. I think it had about a weeks worth of salt in it! I'm going to Walmart tomorrow to see about a soft side lunch box to try and carry some fruit and sandwiches some of the days. It is hard to eat healthy when traveling. I had it pretty easy with a job that had a fridge and microwave for the last nine years.

I keep a mini refer where I work. I know that many don't get a chance to have that luxury. My wife doesn't like seeing me eat processed foods, so I typically have assorted nuts, salad, fruit, yogurt in the frig. Also a small wheat sandwich is what I normally have, unless I take some leftovers.

When I went into the field in my old job, always had Fuji apples or Pink Lady Apples, augmented with grapefruit and it was carried in a soft side so I could throw it in my EDC.

most of our trips to town.is the town where mom's doc appt's are,as well as to where we do our primary food shopping for the month..the nearest location there is 43-45 miles.the furthest is 52-54 miles.in which we always take the shortest and quickest routes..our main source of foods,is diff packs of crackers from dollar tree, when we're not going to eat out,or as a small quick snack before eating out.but yet the worst part of that.is we normally eat at someplace like McDonald's or catfish king..so we need to start doing something like you do bob.or at least similar when it comes to taking something with us..and as for the if places with the better foods go..more expensive then we care for..

I'm sure I am eating a doctors nightmare, I like my BBQ, Bacon, Sausage and Smoked Meat though its not so much the smoke is bad as it is my seasonings. The doc says I'm in relatively good heath though I am older and getting older I really should watch the amount of meat I eat and tone down my seasonings, the doc says it will catch up with me without warning, two years ago he told me to cut back on eating fish anyway I have defied the doctors advise so now he calls my Wife not me knowing the Wife has a mean streak 5 miles wide 10 miles long.

I did get the soft side cooler at least. I'm also roasting a ham right now for lunchmeat. I know you can still eat reasonably healthy on the road, it's just a little more difficult. (Espechially with my love of cheeseburgers)

Need I say more

My advice:

1) Plan your meals to include leftovers. That way, quick meals, lunches, etc. contain what YOU put into them.

2) Get a crock pot. Let IT do the cooking while you run your errands. Plenty of great recipes for them.

3) We eat BAD food because it is also CHEAP food. However, there are plenty of ways to economize on food. a) Shop sales (many stores have BOGO deals, buy one get one free, etc.), b) use coupons (seriously, once you start, much easier to maintain), c) when on sale, stock up!, d) mix meat into dishes with pasta or rice to stretch it. Normal meat meals are like a lb a person, but if pasta or rice involved, can get away with much much less (making it cheaper), e) include veggies! (canned and frozen veggies are cheap, but fresh ones can cost, so be frugal).

4) Get a set of GOOD nonstick pans. Your food will cook better, and they'll be easier to keep clean. Or can start with just ONE large frying pan. Remember the other rules, cook with the idea of leftovers, for example.

5) Learn the value of premade sauce and marinade mixes. These are a godsend for cooks with little time. McCormick makes a ton of them, and they are delicious. Transforms ho-hum chicken into a real dish, for example.

My wife likes to get a couple lbs of deli lunchmeat. For the same price I can buy a whole turkey or ham. Not only do you get a few really good hot meals, slice some for sandwiches, and it dosent have all the preservatives. I know lots of people that say they don't know how to cook, but with the Internet you can pretty much learn anything. I think most of it comes down to most people are lazy, and fast food is so easy.
