I almost hate to admit this, but I use a cheap disposable razor for three months or so. To be fair, I have a trimmed beard, and only shave my neck to keep it from itching. I loved all the commercials about buying a razor delivery service. Are you kidding? Who needs a new razor every week, or want to pay for that service!!! Lol.
As far as bartering, I think jewelry is a great thing to have. Personally I don’t care much for it, but most people

I'm on the fence about jewelry.

Distinguishing a diamond from a cubic zirconium is a difficult, uncommon skill, and the melt value of jewelry is miniscule compared to its mark-up.

Still--in fairness to your point--jewelry was used by many people in WWII to bribe their way out of prison camps. If the IRS comes after you to take everything you own, by law they can't touch jewelry that's on your person (although they can take your jewelry box).

Pimp-like Rolex watches are favored by fighter pilots, as they use it as a source of tangible wealth to barter and/or bribe their way back to friendly territory in case they're shot down behind enemy lines.

Even so, I would prefer gold and silver coins to store and hoard my wealth.

I prefer Canadian maple leaf coins and junk silver.

I like collecting American coins, and have most of my life. I collect mostly graded coins from pcgs, and have a fairly impressive collection. That being said, during today’s economy I believe they are a good investment, but in shtf I think rare high grade coins aren’t going to be a good investment. Most people are attracted to gold though. Even low grade jewelry will hold some barter value.

Even though jewelry may have barter value, the Venezuela situation combined with all the horrible ******** that seems to be going on in the world...I have an added sense of urgency that I didn't have before.

I don't know if it's paranoia, but my instincts are telling me that I need to ramp up my game with regards to prepping. I learned to listen to my instincts when I was a paramedic, and my gut has been talking to me quite a lot lately.

I've been quietly accumulating stuff (as well as gold and silver) at an accellerated pace, and still trying to keep it subtle and light-hearted so that my girlfriend doesn't worry about my sanity.

I have some big pretty silver coins at one time I looked them up and they had a $400 value. Problem is I would rather have ugly coins valued for their metal. But I don’t know of anyone I trust to convert them and not screw me over. So they sit in my safe for now.

The ways to find out the numismatic value of your coins are pretty straight-forward.

Many reputable dealers will appraise your collection for a nominal fee. If you can learn the differences between uncirculated, brilliant uncirculated, melt value, blemished, and so on, you can get a good idea yourself.

If you're concerned about getting screwed on the value of your collection, just make sure that you don't go to a pawn broker and only deal with a reputable dealer.

Yes, I just don’t know a reputable dealers. Will have to research and probably go to Nashville or Birmingham. Nothing local, I think. Thanks for the advice. Btw my coins are sealed in plastic and uncirculated, not sure they were actual coins but minted. Very pretty works of art, but do have a good metal content.
