No, I'd only buy Wally world bikes that had coaster brakes, not caliper ones. Those still suck.

I can't believe, that in all these decades, they haven't come up with a better system for it. I can think of nearly half a dozen ways they could be improved, with just some minor changes, so not sure why this has been so damn difficult. This is true even on more expensive bikes.

I rode Wallyword bikes when we first got back into biking a number of years ago. On a full suspension MTB, I broke the rear axle within two years. We found a Specialized Crossroads at a pawn shop for $100 and saw the light. I took a 40 mile ride on that bike that would not have been possible for me on a Wallyworld bike. We rode mostly Specialized and Trek after that - all of them bought used for about the same price as good Wallyworld bikes. Now I'm riding a Jamis, my wife rides a Masi and my daughter rides a Fuji. My son is the only one that still rides a Specialized. My Jamis and my wife's Masi are the only two bikes we bought new in the last 15 years.

Here is an interesting bike for SHTF, a Surly "Bit Fat Dummy"...if you have the coin, LOL

Yeah, but at nearly 3K, I could simply keep replacing Wallyworld bikes, and never spend near that, LOL...

The used option, for a nice bike, is definitely the way to go.

I heard about a company that's developing an electric bike. If I remember correctly they say it has a range of a couple hundred miles and a top speed of around 50 mph. And a price tag of several thousand dollars.

Even post SHTF, that battery is going to go. Then what?
