I am needing sew several layers of canvas. Thought about rivets but then I remembered a cigar box full of awls from my youth. It's not a super fast process but it does work. I have a few different styles.

I have two, one has a plastic spool and aluminum needle holder. The other is all steel parts other than the wood handle

Mine were picked up over the years. A couple probably belonged to my granddad. There is a old one in the bunch. Thinking it's a speedy stitcher. Has a screw on lid like the Meyers but a wood spool in the handle.

In a Ron Hood video, he sews with the needle put into a handle, no spool. Would work just ad well

I have a set of these Osborne curved needles. Very handy! Think I got them from a sail makers supply. I just checked, found this pic on etsy. So they are available from many sources. I keep 2 of them with my speedy stitcher.
