Patch's A/C thread reminded me of the old mechanics game of toss the condenser,
Now if you played it on someone it was funny
If you fell for it it was shocking

if you did either , tell the story

I megger (used to check high resistance like the insulation of motor windings. It was cranked to generate a high voltage) was used to charge the capacitor. Then is was tossed to the victim.

Taught about that trick in school. Never did it myself.

Did discharge a high power cap used in a radar power supply. My bad.

Another time was scoping a radar transmitter during heavy seas. Scope probe was swinging back forth when I reached for it. Was holding the cabinet frame with the other hand. Eight inch lightening bolt between my hand and 14kv power supply. Not pleasent.

The auto motive condenser trick was pretty safe and fairly "mild" About the same as a spark plug wire zap, The game kind of faded when most plug wires had full boots,

Please let's not talk about those. I should have put a new one in before it was 115 for two months. Now I pray daily for it to make it until September. ;)
