Christmas in July 😍. It was 96 today and I haven’t thought much about Christmas gifts yet- well maybe a little but it takes time.

I am currently working on embroidered quilts twin size.
These will be for Christmas gifts for my grandchildren.
I have 4 grandchildren and 2 bonus grandchildren.
My friend has 2 grandchildren.
Will my bonus grandchildren and his grandchildren have embroidered quilts?
I don't know yet.
But all will have quilts of some sort.
And all will have books of some sort.

Planning on doing small family hampers this year for the three family relations I buy for; instead of individual gifts. A book, some treats, a candle kind of thing. Notice the hamper baskets have gotten incredibly expensive, even in the discount stores, so will be scouring the second hand stores for them. This is the first year I'm not making anything for anyone. My nieces and nephews are older, at an age where handmade doesn't mean anything and probably wouldn't wear anything knitted anyway. I might do lemon curd or similar but thats about it. I'd rather surprise them randomly during the year if they wanted something, it means more I feel, than at Christmas, where its just another gift. My children will all be home this year, so I've gathered some music favourites and books for each. It'll be simpler, but I do miss the days when they were little. I found some old 'wish list' letters to Santa last week- they were hilarious.

Sad to say, but Christmas has gotten very dull. My daughter has very much restricted what we can give the children which takes all the fun out of giving. My wife doesn't want me to buy anything for her because she doesn't want to spend the money. I refuse to go along with that. I still shop, so she has a dozen or so things to open Christmas morning. It is so easy to shop on line we both feel that if we want to get something we just buy it. No need to wait for Christmas. Is this just part of getting older?

Not just getting older, but the ease of getting what we want when we want it.... Internet!! It is nice to have something to open on Christmas morning!!

It is, if it's about the stuff. Maybe you're maxxed out on stuff. If I need or want something, it's a pretty bizzare request HA.
I love doing the things....baking the special cookies with little granddaughter and probably Levi, too. It used to be with all our kids baking and the grandkids, but no one lives near us. But now one of our daughters does that tradition every year with her kids in Washington, and I'm loving the photos. I love going to the school Christmas plays and musicals. Little granddaughter's band concert and the amish school play. I love when we are able to go to church service on Christmas eve, and come home and do a family reading. Not so much anymore with husband housebound. I love hanging some lights on the porch, and our amish neighbor kids like to come and ooh and aah over them. Most years we do luminarias down the long driveway on Christmas eve to "light the way". I love getting lots of Christmas cards and taping them up on the door near the kitchen. I love tinsel on a tree. So much to love.

I still enjoy the season. It isn't about stuff. It is about the joy of giving. IMHO there is nothing more heartfelt than watching someone open a gift and seeing their eyes light up with joy. That is what makes it all worthwhile. We don't have anybody close to share the baking and the decorating, so we just have to be satisfied with face time with the grandkids. They are still a joy, albeit from a thousand miles away. We don't have the Christmas plays or recitals yet, but it's not the same. In the meantime we will take what we can get.

A friend of mine does the same. When my daughter was born, she made a baby quilt for her with animals that she got from coloring books. It is well worn now, but packed up for daughter in with other keepsakes.

My mom embroidered when she was working the night shift at the hospital. She also made a crib quilt with animals embroidered on it. I remember that quilt, but it is long gone.

Christmas Must Be Tonight by The Band. I never heard this, I'm sure y'all will like it.
@Peanut @Bacpacker Now I started putting names down with the @ and realized I'd be including everybody.
It's a sweet song

They might get a copyright infringement- wasn’t it and. . .”the band” on Happy Days? 😂
(Sorry, that was totally off topic but came to mind when I realized that was their name.)

I’m not catching your drift. The Band was from the 1970s, maybe even late 60s. Happy Days, was in production early 70s, weren’t they?
Robbie Robertson of The Band, wrote the song. He died last year.
