Someone on here called him Wingy once. I got a good laugh from that.

Is he tired of the goat head burrs in New Mexico? It seems to me that he had many. There is a dog park that I go to that is so full of them. I go to this park every day, M-F, and chuck a ball for the Aussie, and once she is done, I rake for 15 to 30 minutes. I take a shrub rake, a sifter for a 5 gallon bucket and rake up a bunch every day. I am hoping that in two years I will have them all. Yep, that many. It seemed to me that he had that many or more as well.

Is he looking for land that would be better for gardening?
That wuz me that called him that. Don't recall what brought that on, but oh well. He never held it against me.

Moving near water, tired of New Mexico! Looking for a better community and a change!

Can't say I blame him. I couldn't stand New Mexico.
I worked with a woman who LOVED N.M. when they lived there.

When your whole lineage, like mine, is agrarian (farmers and ranchers), I can only look at most of N.M. and Arizona and say "WHY? Why live there?" How can you garden or grow crops there? What grows well there is poky things like cactus and goat heads.

I do know that there are places where crops are grown. A cousin of mine is married to a pilot whose family are cotton ranchers in Arizona. I've seen nut orchards going south from Albuquerque.

It would be great if Wingnut would sober up, improve his health and life. IMHO! (As a child of an alcoholic)

I thought it was you, but I couldn't remember for sure. Loved it! But wasn't he gone when you said that?

I wasn't reading the menus as much as I was noticing all the people who are no longer with us: Tankgirl (RIP), Curmudgeon (RIP), Wingnut (hopefully doing well), and TeeJ.

May be tamales, may be Swedish meatballs, may be something else. Egg nog is classic for us. Have no idea of what else. I'll go with the flow!
I didn't know either had passed away, just thought they were lying low. Hello to Wingnut from me also.

I've a few family coming for Christmas dinner. It will be turkey & ham, and all the trimmings. Enough for a few days dinners, so I can swaddle on the couch.

I surely miss him! Loved the stories and the photos! i would love to hear from him. The last letter and email I sent were not replied to.

Now, Christmas dinner will be ham, sweet potatoes, coleslaw and sandwich fixings! Have 2 pies to thaw and serve.

I think he was still here. I seem to recall him commenting about it. Maybe not I've slept since then. Lol

Tankgirl was very sick with cancer and stopped posting, stopped responding to emails. Curmudgeons wife came on and told us. I believe there is a thread about it.

I think I should probably be glad we didn't move to New Mexico. I loved skiing at Santa Fe and the ski area near Los Alamos, and Taoes too but from everything I read on here NM would probably have been a bad place to try and start a farm....not enough water in summer
I would not have had that stupid accident there, so I would still be able to ski most likely. But should have could have would have....you never know what it would have been like

say hi to Wingnut from me too!

Yes, online friends pass on, but their memories are still with us. How fitting for the holidays.

We're planning a Christmas duck, probably orange glaze, with stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots and some kind of desert. With a little egg nog and Kahlua.

We considered moving to NM about a dozen years ago. My wife was thinking about working at Los Alamos after college. We made several trips there and to Santa Fe, and Taos to learn Earthship construction. In the end the pay was insufficient. I wasn't too keen on living at ground zero on a first strike target, or in Taos, which was basically methville, like where we live, but with a little snow. And they have screwy CCW laws. It's on our list of places to visit but not live. Like Aspen... ;)

Taos and Santa Fe are very different from Albuquerque and Las Cruces...and Espanola..meth capitol, for sure.
I've gone thru the earthships a couple of times. Pretty. But all I could think of was they are built in an area that you wouldn't really want to spend time outside. The little "grow rooms" were very small, too. I like being outside, so I wasn't impressed.

I can believe that Espanola is loaded with meth. Gallup seems to have its share, but maybe it is almost everywhere in N.M. Gallup is where we got into late one night after cleaning up a place in Tucson. It was maybe midnight, and it seems that there was only one motel with any rooms available. It was a horrible place, but what are you going to do when it is midnight, you were cleaning much of the day, drove from Tucson and it seems that there are no rooms anywhere? Car was full, including a flat screen television. We were sure the car was going to get broken into and things stolen. Somehow, nothing happened, in spite of a small group of people standing a few rooms away, watching us.

Santa Fe is a great place to get away to. It happens to be a sought after area for tourists. Forget trying to get a room there for Valentine's Day, or to get into any of the spas. We got in once because we got on a list and someone cancelled. The Plaza area hotels are sought after.

We lived in Cruces for six years, our middle son was born there in 1990. Husband was working out at the base. That place was hot. So hot in the summertime, couldn't let the kids play out mid day. Not my favorite place at all. We ended up in Albuquerque years later, and lived near the river, so we had some trees and shade. Liked it better than Las Cruces, but I'm just not a fan of New Mexico. Santa Fe and Taos are tourist areas, so they try to do better. Gallup, Las Lunas, Espanola, Farmington, Raton, all very crummy places to be.
