Hi all, new member but been prepping for a while. I have a 10 x 20 underground steel shelter. We have a Carbon Monoxide and explosive gas detector in it that is constantly reading about 200ppm for CO. When I turn on the fans and vent the shelter, it drops to safe levels in about 30 mins. I have nothing combusting in the shelter (it's all electric powered, AC and DC) so not sure I really have a CO problem. I can`t come up with another realistic gas that could cause a false positive either. Any one have experience with false CO readings in underground shelters or have a guess what could trigger it? I have tried 3 different brands,of detectors and they all show similar readings.

Your steel shelter is acting as a kiln, which is causing the organics in the clay to outgas....

Does this mean that you turn on the ventilation periodically, but not constantly?
As I understand..
If you do not have a natural ventilation system, then you must keep the forced ventilation system on at all times. (about 100 W * h for a 50-100 m2 area and a ceiling height of 2.5 m).
------
If there is a mixed ventilation system,
then natural ventilation works first, and when the sensor is triggered, forced ventilation is activated.
-------
I don't know how in America.
In Russia, it is prohibited by building codes and regulations to install a forced ventilation system without natural ventilation for civilian facilities.
At other facilities (shelter, military, industrial) - it is possible, but it must work constantly.
