yes, weedy is right. loose leaf for sure but you can tear open the tea bag ad use a strainer. i got a couple--the kind that sits on top of cup is nice and easy. get the stainless kind. a ton of different stryle and not expensive. i love my earl gray tea every day

Wow. It's a good thing I don't drink tea.
I wonder how the rest of us ever made it without getting our minimum daily requirement of plastic...
Since we chewed on the end of a BIC pen, could we get: "around 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion nanoplastics in a single day?"
I always drink everything thru a plastic straw, does that count? :dunno:

I'll see you there!! We buy water occasionally just to get the bottles to refill with our well water! Are we going to have to drink hot tea out of plastic bottles in plastic hell??

yup==plastic hell is real. just ask bill gates. i think he is hells limo driver.
stainless steel bottles are your friend ;^)

For those worried about the plastics found in tea, are you also worried about the lead found in tea?

Pretty much everything we eat and drink (or breathe!) we should stop doing. And there's probably a group jihad'ing against every one of those things if you look hard enough. I'm pretty sure that some group has probably found harmful chemicals in the fabrics for the clothes that we wear. Are we supposed to run around naked then? (while not eating, drinking or breathing to boot?)

Funny, I was just inspecting the bottle of body wash in the shower this morning (one tends to get a bit bored standing there marinating in the hot water for long periods). Right on the front of the bottle - a big ad - "Contains no Phthalates or Parabens!" Well thank God for that. Whatever those are.

Any idea what's in the metal of that thing? If it's made in China, which it probably is, I wouldn't be surprised if it were Cadmium coated Lead or similar. Labeled "Restaurant Quality High Grade Stainless Steel" in poorly translated Chinese-to-English, of course.

Tea bags are just one thing that may have plastic in the bag. Think about all of the packaging that all of our food comes in. It seems that everything is in plastic, and plastic is in everything. Microplastics are in our drinking water if you use tap water without filtering it. Even if we filter it, we may still have microplastics in the water.
Water in plastic water bottles is not good, but there are many people for whom this is the source of their drinking water, purchased cases of water from a store. When I first started prepping, I had a few cases, but I don't use bottled water.
I have long hated drinking from plastic. I have no memory of ever purchasing plastic drinkware. Everything is glass or ceramic for me. There is an ick factor for me relative to food on or in plastic.

I know I have talked about it here before, but I drink water from a canning jar with straight sides, 2.5 cups, with a plastic lid with a hole in it, and a metal straw. I started this because we had a cat who was always drinking from my water glass. I keep one of these setups on my end table, beside dresser, and in my car. Actually, I keep two setups on the tables. People who have seen the set up like it. I do remember that someone said that they would be concerned about glass breakage. I think in the 6 to 8 years that I have been using this kind of set up, I have broken one jar. I take one in my overnight bag when I go housesit or traveling.

I drink Tetley round bag, Red Rose bag with a string mostly.. On occasion I drink Lipton bag with a string.. On a rare occasion for a sweet treat one thing I like is Celestial Seasoning Black Cherry Berry.. It seems hard to find now..

Agree with someone that said something like... At this stage of life I'm not going to worry much about it..

I would like to get some stainless bottles. Problem is all the bottles that I've found so far have plastic tops.

heres a good one stainless bottle and top

Now that we have internet here at the house I can start looking things up. Thanks. I'll check it out.

If you click the link in the OP, you will find it is nothing more than a company using panic to sell stuff.
The page is 23 advertisements for tea they are getting paid to sell.
Plastic-free teabags?
...Then why do many of theirs end in this?
Information Source: response e-mail

Plant-based Bioplastics / PLA: Yes

Fossil-fuel Plasticizers: Yes
Other than their bags being made of 'plastic'... they are plastic-free 🤪.

You've got to watch things labeled "stainless steel". Most everything comes from China these days, and I think they have zero standards for truth in labeling there.

I will use plastic to eat on. Our food is shipped in plastic and our water is reportedly full of microplastics according to reports in this thread. So putting this stuff in a plastic water bottle doesn't sound like we're doing anything to it that it hasn't already had done to it before we got ahold of it. My drinking water is delivered in 5 gallon plastic bottles. I don't heat anything on plastic (in the microwave, etc.) but I'll eat off of it. Cookware? I have some stainless steel, some non-stick coated, some "glass" (corningware, pyrex, corelle, etc.) and some cast iron. I have no qualms about using any of it (note that I don't use any aluminum cookware other than aluminum foil sometimes). My cutting boards are plastic. The racks inside my dishwasher are covered in some kind of plastic. My toilet seats are made of plastic. My car seats are either leather of fabric, but there's so much plastic on other things inside the car that the inside of the windshield needs to be cleaned on occasion because of the offgassing. My toothbrush is made of plastic. The keyboard I'm typing this post is is made of plastic. The chair I'm sitting in is covered in the stuff. The eyeglasses I'm wearing so I can read the (plastic) computer screen are themselves made of plastic (even the lens!)

Given what we use in our everyday lives, I highly doubt drinking from a glass or stainless mug is going to make a heckuva lot of difference in the grand scheme of things. I know every little bit helps, but when the little bit is only 0.001% of what is needed, I personally just don't bother with it. I'm off to bed after I slip out of my shoes (plastic Crocs, BTW).
