The whitetail bucks are on the chase!! I was coming out of the feed shed a few minutes ago and a doe came zooming by! The buck that was chasing her ran through the carport between my car and truck!!

Then you have respect for my hubby. He's had buck fever for the last few weeks.I respect anything that chases whitetail.
He's driving me nuts.....whitetail is all that's on his mind. Yeah, I know that's not what you meant.
He reported to me that he almost shot one today but held off b/c it's not the one he really wants. He's got a 9 and a 10 point that he's waiting for but they're smart and thus far have not been caught on his camera during daylight hours. He's waiting for them to mess up. He let a big 5 point go this morning.....thank goodness.....b/c I did not want to spend a day butchering a deer.
I really hate driving this time of year. Stupid deer are all over the roads, especially in the early and late hours of the day.
I used to chase. Now I just waddle quickly.

We snapped photos of two different 10 pointers in our yard within the last week. One was 5 days before the opener, the other taken the day before opener. Both were withing 25 yards of our porches.
You can see from the image below that they were certainly different bucks.

The left picture would be considered a ..basket crown.. meaning you could set a basket in the rack..
The right picture is a ..traditional, conventional.. crown as you could inflate a beach ball in the tines and it would not fall out..

We have both whitetail and mule deer around here. The other day I saw a nice 5 point (western count) with 3 does while I was in town on main street.

So also today there was a young (2 yr old) buck that was hanging around the equipment shed ( old, big run in shed, once for my horses, now for trailers, mowers, etc.!) I left to clean the building and he was laying down out there. Came home, he was in the same spot! Hubby and I took Bear to TSC, the buck never moved! So, ok, injured buck!! So we finally started to walk over and he jumped up, hopped the fence, ran into the woods behind the house!!
Then a doe jumped up.....she was laying between two lawn tractors! The buck couldn't get to her, and he was waiting her out! She knew this and was waiting him out! She hopped the opposite fence and took off!! And here he came, out of the woods and hot on her heels!!

Love to look at them, hate hitting them with a vehicle.
In the last couple months with vehicles:
My wife hit a deer. She's OK.
My son hit a deer. He's OK
Neighbor hit a deer. Not so OK (and his car is totaled).
When I drive around, there's at least 1 dead deer every mile on the side of the road.

Last two deer I killed was with my truck! Ate both of them...

Hubby and I processed a deer that was hit at the neighbors place. It was a bit of a mess with blood clots and mush in the hind quarter. I'm not sure we would put the time into doing it again, but we were able to make some dog food out of it and salvage some meat for ourselves. It's way better than leaving the carcus to rot and the pups were thrilled.
I just finished cutting up the deer heart that I put in the crock pot after I cooked a roast yesterday. I leave the juices and then cook the heart for the dog. She was super happy! Most folks just leave the heart with the guts. We've convinced a few folks now to save the hearts for their dogs.
