I participate in a lot of auctions in my country. Mostly because you can sometimes get expensive gear for ridiculously low prices.Another reason is that im buying off things that i consider worth saving (books, photos, tapes, etc.)

Now im curious if there are more ppl like me here .... so i want to ask. Do you buy and store only things that are usable after SHTF or are you storing stuff worthless for survival only to keep it safe?

Again sry for my english. Let me know if my question doesnt make sence and ill try to explain it better.

Thanks for the replies so far and thank you DrHenley ... glad to hear that my english is not as bad as i thought.

To specify my question.... things im sometimes buy dont and wont have value after SHTF. To give an example .... im an atheist like most ppl in my contry but i still bought a bible because i believe its something to save, got books about history of my country and slavic people, about our traditions, etc.

So my question is if anyone else is buying things that you wont use/sell after SHTF...things you got just to protect a small part of something you think is worth protecting.

I have purchased thing that I can use when thins get really bad for the store room, like purchasing a couple of sun oven's by Sun Oven's International for off grid cooking without building a fire but mostly what I buy just to store are replacement parts for items I already store and and for items I use, I always buy in two's and replacement parts if required. I have 6 8"dia pvc 4ft tube with sealed screw caps and loosely put heavy wool blankets in them for storage, I do the same for toilet paper but 6"dia. PVC is my friend here for storing items.

I really do not know how much stuff I will never get to use if the SHTF. I have found funny things which I thought were important 15 years ago, and now I find them in a box and do not know why I got them in the first place. Lots of things will be traded for something later or passed on down the line when I decide it is time to go home. GP

PS: he who dies with the most toys, wins...

I don't know if this answers your question, but I tend to buy and hoard 2nd hand books.

Entertainment is important post SHTF, and getting lost in a good book is a great way to pass the time when there is no electricity, no television, no video games, etc..

I have--perhaps--6,000 books on almost any subject . . . and lots of mindless paperbacks (what I call "literary junk food").

I have collected some of the Foxfire books and find them very helpful in understanding crafts and skills long lost in our modern world.
When I was in grade school or maybe early jr high a friend of mine had checked out one of the Foxfire books. Seems like he never returned it, but that was my first look at I believe was book two out of the collection. The whole series was one of my Christmas request years later from hunny when I found it on EBay at a great price.

I don't agree with the religion, but their preparedness teaching are really good.

...and the gold statues of the angel Moroni on top of their temples are impressive, too.

An angel named Moroni? ;)

My two favorite books in my collection are "The Natural Foods Cookbook" from Beatrice Hunter. And the FANNIE FARMER COOKBOOK! The first edition was in 1896 and I have one from 1977. The Natural Foods Cookbook is from 1961 and I bought it in a Fleamarket while traveling in England on vacation with my wife in 2014. You can have all the food you want, but if you cannot cook it and make it enjoyable, then you are just eating and not DINING...GP

Nothing is better than being able to cook with all natural ingredients. Jonnte, do you know how to clarify butter? If you put butter in a sauce pan and cook it slowly, it will coagulate. The milk substances will sink to the bottom and get hard, the rest of the "real" butter will be clear and bright yellow. If you put this clarified butter into glass canning jars, it will last for months without cooling, just in the dark. Maybe watch a film in youtube and see it once...Gary

So funny you brought this up! I keep a bunch of clarified butter in storage. Then I rotate it so it doesn’t go bad. Just did some this week. It’s easy to do and I know we will have butter if there is ever a time it isn’t in stores. We actually have more than six months worth. Can’t stand to think of meals without butter! :p

So far, the government hasn’t taxed the air we breathe.
You know they will just as soon as they figure out how. Probably they will invent some special type of mask that measures it and require it as a "preventive measure" for future pandemics and then finally they will achieve the ultimate goal of (tyrannical) government.

you can get a pack of margarine for 27 cents but a pack of butter goes for around 4 euros here and our so called nutritionists insist butter is dangerous, hence the higher price, sugar has also been deemed unhealthy -> extra sugar tax,it is what it is

Just give Mr. Bill Gates enough time, he will invent a COVID 19 protective mask with a bluetooth/WiFi connection on the inlet/outlet valve which will count the times we inhale/exhale, send the data to Google over the internet, with an e-mail to the CIA and IRS.....The CIA will know if you breathe or cough so they can inform the Police that you may be sick and the IRS will know how much air you have CONSUMED. Live free. GP
