Sadly, I admit that I am not "comfortable" with my expectations.

And I am dealing with that (reluctantly dealing with that). I am comfortable that I am being realistic in my expectations. I have no second thoughts or reservations that my expectations could be flawed.

Preppers must be ruthlessly honest about future expectations. Not specifically accurate, but in a general picture of probable future. I post more later. I'll leave temporally with the thought that the next (4) FOUR years are going to be very-very rough.

Trump is more of a symptom of the problems of the USA than he is the solution to those problems.

Very specifically, he is not a reason to stop prepping.

He has already been president for four years.....yet any improvements he made were not lasting/permanent.

I suspect that since he will never need to win an election again, he will be more self serving than the past.

That is already apparent from the "Yes Men" he is surrounding himself with.

Give the man a chance people. He hasnt even made it to the White House yet! Absolutely I feel comfortable with him. He's putting together a great team of experts that will support his/our agenda.
I can't believe that some of us here seem to be writing him off as a failure already, even before he actually takes office.
As far as prepping goes I don't see any reason to change anything. Many things can happen regardless of who's in office.

I can't say here all the things I want to say or else I'd get banned - but I've been keeping my ear to the world-wide ground and I'll say this to the whole world, not just to Americans. It's a disaster speeding into multiple head on collisions. If you want to survive this then everybody needs to increase prepping like they've never prepped before in their lives and do it now while there is still some access to already dwindling supplies. And keep your mouthes shut about your preps. Everyone everywhere is headed for a world of hurt.

I agree.
Some people need to take a step back, and imagine what our future could be like if we were facing 4 years of Kameltoe, starting on the 20th :eyeballs:.
Yes, that coulda happened!gaah

My expectations from his administration

My energy costs will go down.
My 2A rights will go up. Not be downtrodden like the past. 4 years.
The DEI war is over Every body is equal, not white men is evil. I have been afffected since the Title d IX and i am fed up.. Only tired of 40yrs of being discriminated against.

I think I dialed this thread perfectly. I am "EXTACTIC" about the responses thus far.

When I start a new thread, I am often attempting to gather a "general feeling" from the responses.

There is "Team Trump" and there is a force, that head-on opposes all things Trump. I am happy that he and his team get a shot at substantial change.

It will turnout however it does. My read is prepper expect more time, a better social/economic environment for positive change. I don't anticipate very thrilling-breakthrough results. I don't have any issue with Donald Trump and teams' vision/dreams/goals.

Use this, wisely. I doubt you will get another chance. The evil force that Donald Trump opposes is not going to roll-over. They have already paved his path with pockets of impervious hell.

Just think how racist a Harris administration would have been. It was bad enough under obumer and Biden. I remember that Clinton was known as the first black president too.

At some point a prepper must feel "ready".

It is my opinion few achieve that level. Preppers always want more time. Preppers always "EXPECT" that they will somehow get more time.

Many preppers have selected this reality 50 or 60 or 70 years ago.

Preppers think that prepping became a serious objective 20 or 30 years ago.

I laid out my bare minim expectation.
All within your peramertors

I guess I was "prepping" long before I ever heard the term prepping. Back then it was just being self sufficient and independent. Stores were a long way away and the roads weren't maintained in bad weather like they are now days.

I agree with many pieces of what people have said above. I am not a fan of any long term politician, because I believe even if someone starts out with good intentions, eventually they become corrupted, or too tired to care. Mountain Trappers comment of 'whoever is in office' is true- in any country. Technically we have no government at the minute. My Dad once said- doesn't matter who gets in, the civil servants stay the same. And they are the ones who run things here, really. At the end of the day I believe who we need to watch/worry about are the people behind the throne, whispering in his ear. They are out to make money, not benefit the people.
Initially, when Trump won, I though ok - it might be alright. He's a little wiser maybe, and some of his talk appeared 'stable' and sensible. Maybe it will be grand, we will keep our heads down and carry on. Its more on you guys, but affects us also.

However in the past week I have done a drastic u-turn. His most recent press conference was unbelievable; and actually put me in mind of my mother (who had dementia) and used to come up with all kind of notions, but speak about them with such sincerity. And so, while I truly hope that under his administration your country is repaired, and everyone has a better quality of life, I don't think it will. I see 'distractions' -shiny little treats tossed out to appease the public, but really no real concrete, justifiable plans with backed up figures. Not only that, I think that @Binky is right and the world will hurt.
If he puts tariff's on everything he promises, the EU, Mexico etc will do the same. This will only mean costs will go up for everyone, and cause less trade, which will freeze America out. As an example, I used to buy crafts for gifts from small businesses there, but it has become too expensive due to shipping and taxes. Some of you may not care, and that's fine, but these issues filter down and out, and there is machinery/plastics and foodstuffs that has to be imported. If you could get the country to eat more unprocessed foods, and work in farming, it would help, but that's not going to happen.
Anyway we here are rethinking our prepping here, because the future is looking dodgy.

There is so much to unpick here- great thread @Sourdough

Well said, Mountain trapper. I feel the same way. If I were to use a phrase it would be "cautiously optimistic". The philosophy is going in the right direction. IMHO the border will close on Day 1. Sanctions will be restored on Iran, and Energy Independence will be a top priority. His team of experts have come from the Private Sector, which to me is a huge improvement. He is the only President in recent memory who kept his campaign promises in his first term. I see no reason why he won't do that in his second.

As far as Prepping goes I see no reason to change anything. Ask the people who are getting burned out as we speak. Ask the people in North Carolina that just got swept away by two hurricanes. Do you think you could have done a better job prepping? I have said it before, but prepping should be a way of life; not a fad you do because it is cool or socially acceptable at the time.

Some of the things Trump wants to do might hurt us all financially by increasing inflation even more. That's one thing I am worried about. If he puts large tariffs on everything imported , inflation is going to be huge. I understand he wants things to be made here, but you can't do that from one day to the next, plus some stuff doesn't grow here like coffee or tea or bananas or sugar cane. We are stocking up on stuff like that ( coffee , tea, sugar) . Already have some of course, but want to buy and store more.

But I don't think he can or will do it. It's not possible for him to get it done in the next 4 years. The reason factories are no longer in the US and now in China or elsewhere is US environmental laws, and the unions. Neither have gone away. He is not a dictator that can make them go away overnight either. People in the US need to be realistic. They are just not for the most part. You can't have it both ways , clean environment, sky high factory worker wages, AND low cost. The US population would have to give up on something

It's like everything else in the US, our standard of living must go down, because it is not sustainable in every way starting with the debt that keeps going up and will never be paid back. Trump can't fix that.

I am just hoping he can prevent ww3 from officially starting and turning nuclear, and the economy doesn't crash completely

I was being trained in 1951 (it was a failure; I was too young).
But by spring 1952 my training was working. My father and my uncle Don, both back from WW-II figured out how to teach a young child, so as it was interesting to the child. In the beginning it was basic wilderness survival.

An interesting thing is after the war they both had zero interest in firearms. They both wanted nothing to do with firearms. In late 1956 I purchased my first firearm.
