Do you feel comfortable with "your" TRUMP expectations, from a prepping point of view...???

the problem with this is if you start opening up plastic factories again in the US ( someone has to want to open them to start) , you will either have crazy high prices ( $50 for a plastic storage box anyone?) or you would have to eliminate unions , environmental laws and minimum wage laws , probably welfare too, or people would not take those jobs)
Plastic factories make a huge mess for the environment that is very expensive to prevent
Steel manufacturing does too
Cant have it both ways.

To look at this from a larger perspective, the only "prep" that the USA has is the stuff we can get from China. In other words, we are a country dependent on China. I believe that Trump wants the USA to make more of the stuff that we now get from China making the USA more independent and self-sufficient.
Out dated pipe dream.

So, we kneel to the power of China to allow us to survive.
I think it is mutual. Their economy improved also by selling stuff to the US. If they stopped selling to the US, their economy would go away also. That's the thing. It's like both countries benefit in some ways from the way it is now. Both countries loose economically if the system goes back the way it was before. If you leave things alone , eventually China standard of living will be close to ours, and no longer cheap, and then factories are going to open up in places like Africa or Guatamala
If I was in charge, I would try to be friends with China, instead of constantly alienating countries that are big enough to do damage to us, instead of worrying about annoying places that mean nothing to the survival of the US like Taiwan, or Israel or Ukraine
But you know who would lose out if that happened? Not the average person in the US but the military industrial complex. They are the ones that benefit from these conflicts the most

I have a lot of expectations, but I am concerned about unintended consequences that can result from actions taken by the Trump team...
For example: If you cut funding for the Department of Interior you may end up cutting funding for Federal Fire Fighters. If you threaten to take Greenland or Panama, you may end up being on the losing side of international public opinion. Trade restrictions and import tariffs may lead to higher costs and supply constraints that hurt the American public in the short term.

I have high hopes, but I also know that there have been a lot of "traps" set by the current administration (Political Appointees and Motivated High Level Federal Employees) as they prepare for the new management team. I hope that the new team is able to navigate the minefield safely.

yes we can....all critical items need to be made inside our border...we can have a balance of things....lets build power grid stuff here and get cheap plastic stuff from china...just as examples...the list goes on.
It's a wonderful dream.
Until US industry is ready to put your plan into action it will never happen.

I do. My boots are all made in the US; Whites, Red Wing, Filson. For me it is possible to find almost everything I want that isn't made in China.
it sounds good in theory, but like I already said, stuff made in the US is WAY more expensive. I can't afford spending hundreds of $ on shoes , I think probably most people can't
We would all be wearing flip flops or going barefoot like people in India

Yeah, but in general USA made stuff will last much longer than anything made in China. Besides, I prefer to support American workers than communist slave labor. I don't mind paying a little more for quality made products.

A Harris win would have been comparable to no gvt at all, similar to 'while the cats away, the mice (We the People) will play'. IOW, outright chaos at all levels. Trumps win is/may be more like controlled chaos.

I just keep thinking he had been a lifelong Dem and friends with the same people he's been railing against, and them against him. Seems to me like he's playing both sides against the middle. IDK, maybe maybe not but it does raise some suspicion for me. Most people want to overlook all that and claim he'll fix everything. I'm not so sure.

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice how 'quiet' it's been for the last year or so compared to 2016 and 2020??? Too eerily quiet to my way of thinking. No mass protests, school shootings, or other mass destruction & mayhem, etc........not counting the Vegas or New Orleans events that both seemed pretty low key in comparison to past events.

I look at my preps and think I'm done. There's no physical need pressing me to get more, like for so many years before. Now, I'm just maintaining supplies......if I use it, then replace. IDK, that may be my undoing, but for now it's enough.

The next 10-ish days, and 4 years beyond may prove very interesting and could be what we've all been preparing for. Whether it's directly related to Trump or those who hate him enough to do something about it. Just not feeling good about this at all. And yet I hope & pray I am very wrong.

LOL I don't want to have to get a loan to buy shoes!!
I think every single shoe we own is made in China, including muck boots
The Asics shoes I am wearing now are made in Indonesia. No, they didn't cost $700 either.
People that only buy stuff at Wal-Mart will only come home with cheap Chinese junk. :(

People do need to look at labels everywhere. You can buy $200 work boots from respected American makers like Keen and find out they're made in Asia. Red Wing too. They've slowly been adding Asian made products. Just have to look at the boots first to see whether they're made here or overseas. Usually if they're made here there will be an American flag somewhere on the box.

I generally don't have a problem with stuff made overseas, just China. My number 1 choice will always be made in the US by American workers.

Maybe some Red Wings are made in Asia now, but mine were made in the US. And that's part of my point. My Red Wings, Whites and Filson boots were all bought over 15 years ago and are a long way from wearing out. They just last a lot longer than Chinese made boots.

The Red Wings I wear to work are made in Cambodia. They are tough as nails but on my job no boots last more than two years. Even Whites will need to be rebuilt after two years. Railroad ballast is murder on boots. I get around 15-16 months from my Red Wings. They hold up great and then suddenly begin to let go. I'll be getting new ones next week.

The thing about Chinese products is, the Chinese are perfectly willing and able to make superb quality. But by the time you pay for that higher quality, you may as well buy American...
