Some idiot about a mile away from us decided to burn a brush pile during the hottest part of the day and when the wind was blowing hardest. He got the attention of the local Forest Service fire crews and all local fire departments. They all hit it with everything they had and got it out before it got away from them.
Our forests are tinder dry and the fire danger is high! We heard aircraft flying overhead for about two hours as they did water drops and surveillance. After a couple of hours the smoke took on that acrid smell it does when a campfire is extinguished. Fortunately for us the wind was blowing it away from us. A change in direction would have had us evacuating.
Only two more months of this to go. Sigh!
