Some idiot about a mile away from us decided to burn a brush pile during the hottest part of the day and when the wind was blowing hardest. He got the attention of the local Forest Service fire crews and all local fire departments. They all hit it with everything they had and got it out before it got away from them.

Our forests are tinder dry and the fire danger is high! We heard aircraft flying overhead for about two hours as they did water drops and surveillance. After a couple of hours the smoke took on that acrid smell it does when a campfire is extinguished. Fortunately for us the wind was blowing it away from us. A change in direction would have had us evacuating.

Only two more months of this to go. Sigh!

Will he get hit with a fine for this?

I hope they make an example out of him. Its a new area for home building and probably someone new to the area who just doesn't understand how stupid he is.

People fleeing Covid the last two years have flooded our state and our corner is no exception. Most of them are city slickers from blue shitholes. You wouldn't believe all the problems they've caused. Real estate is extremely inflated. streets and highways are plugged. People are rude. They have flooded every popular, well known, tourist spots with people, dogs and traffic. Glacier National Park went to a permit system this year to handle the overload. That isn't working either.

We had one kid who lost the house he was bidding on (offered the asking price) when an out-of-stater paid above the asking price without ever seeing the property. Another of ours was handed her new rent contract with a $200.00 a month increase for the next year and told to sign it right then or be out in 30 days. Rentals are very difficult to come by and anything for sale is priced way over what a working person can afford.

I imagine that many people see Montana as one of the last frontiers and want to escape the hell of living in a city. Colorado is beyond ridiculous in rent price hikes and the cost of real estate.

Can't they arrest a moron like that for endangering public safety? IMHO the only thing that will set him straight will have to come from a judge, and have a hefty fine attached to it. You could beat him to a pulp, and it probably still wouldn't knock any sense into him. It really makes me mad when people are that stupid, and endanger everyone around them.

@mosquitomountainman what part of the world are you in? Sounds like Idaho or Colorado, maybe Utah. Blue state boneheads always screw everything up everywhere they go...

We are in the NW corner. We can see into Glacier NP to the east and Canada to the north from our property. Locals are hoping for one of our winters that clears out the Montana Wannabes.

Hoping some of those blue ding-a-lings head back to their holes. You live in a great area. I used to visit (all seasons) once or twice a year. Summers are gorgeous. Like you said hopefully winter will set them back.
