I saw this and don't know how true it is, but I think it's a great idea.

I usually throw peach seeds outside, but we have lots of trees here, so I probably should toss them somewhere without trees.

Pumpkin and squash seeds get roasted, buttered, and salted for a yummy snack.

I put all my organic waste in a can in the kitchen and throw it in the raised bed when it gets filled up. That waste usually includes egg shells, coffee grounds, orange peels, peanut husks, etc. It all gets tilled into the soil in the Spring.

I usually throw my apple cores out under the bird feeder. If the birds don't get it, the squirrels do. Things like celery leaves, cucumber ends, broccoli cores, etc. I will usually bag up and dump out back for the deer or other critters. That kind of waste never goes in the trash.

That link isn't working.
One of the activities that I had students do after they had a snack with seeds, was to plant them, make a label, and keep them watered. It was fun to see grapes, apples, and other things sprout and grow.

I plant seeds from fruit I eat. I have grapefruit growing that I planted almost two years ago. They do not grow fast, so about 6 inches tall.

I have several avocado plants growing. I had a pot in the kitchen window with potting soil in it. I just kept putting avocado pits in it, and they kept sprouting. Suspending them with toothpicks over water never worked for me.

I had a peach tree that died, but was prolific. Lots of pits fell to the ground and sprouted and grew. I have two trees now from that original tree.

I don't know what happened to the link. It just disappeared. :( LadyLocust, do you have a link to where you saw it?

Basically the premise was that in Asia, people there don't throw away their seeds and they have many naturally growing fruit trees in their area.

It basically said....when you eat fruit, don't throw away the seeds. Instead, dry them, put them in a bag, and leave them in your car. When you're out and about throw them out the window in areas where there are no trees and let nature do her thing.

I don't know how necessary it is to dry them first and I don't know how many of the seeds would actually germinate and grow, but it's far better than throwing them away in the garbage.
