If your child must have a certain toy, get it while and IF you can.
The situation has gone completely insane.
The problem is of course the broken supply chain. Many factories have shut down, or are running at partial capacity, because they can't get the materials needed to make the toys.
The few toys that are getting made are stuck on cargo ships.
A great many hot toys are already sold out, or rapidly getting there.
Ebay sellers are taking advantage of the situation. They are buying up the hot toys and listing them at completely ridiculous prices.
Here is an actual example.
On September 21, I posted a certain hot toy for $69.99 on my deals page, and you could get it in blue or pink.
It is now 100% sold out at Amazon and in the stores (and it's a long time until Black Friday!). But you can buy it off Ebay from the gougers.
In a group I'm in, a lady has ordered the blue one from an Ebay seller for $269.99 + $9.25 shipping. She's frantically looking for a pink one.
This is what society has come to.

I think that many things are going to be impossible to purchase, not just toys. I saw a post elsewhere, that someone had to replace their microwave and dishwasher within a few days of each other. Both needed new motherboards, which were impossible to get. An easier solution was to replace the appliances.

Have you been talking to The Princess ?

She has me on a path to preemptively replacing the air conditioner and refrigerator at our rental property. They both still work and will be redeployed.

Well..

Better prepared than un.

Since I read that, I want to buy new motherboards for all of my appliances.

Right now, having a spare microwave, etc. might not be a bad idea.
I so agree. A garage fridge could end up being the main fridge.
Daughter has moved into a new place and brought the microwave I found at a yard sale a couple years ago for her. That microwave is going to the 3rd floor office in the new place along with the larger sized dorm refrigerator I had in my classroom. My classroom microwave went to a friend for her RV a few years ago. I also have an electric roaster. My aunt and uncle had an oven that went out and they used my mother's roaster in place of their oven for quite a while. Aunt baked cakes and other items in it. Roasters are around $30. I've roasted turkeys in mine.

You have to be careful not to go overboard on hoarding of spares. When my mom died, I ended up with three brand new Kuerig coffee machines - unopened in box - to go along with her other (still working) one that I ended up with too. Those supplemented the two that we already had.

I won't even get into how many new toothbrushes we inherited.

Insane is right! Saw this today, $170 for a little red wagon and its not even a Radio Flyer!!! Guess kids in these parts will be learning to make their own wagons with old lawnmower wheels and wood like I did.
