I am finding the journey towards good health is the same but opposite the journey towards poor health. It is the accumulated sum of all our good and poor habits. Some things count for a little, like eating a a bowl of ice cream or a burger (bad) or an apple or some raw veggies (good). Some count for a lot, like smoking or regular exercise. The best path to good health is to start making sure the good choices outweigh the bad, and to the greatest amount possible.

So in 2018, start out right by making small changes and sticking to them. Some good things you can do:

- start each day by drinking 12-16 oz of water. This hydrates the body and helps to flush out the bad stuff accumulated as your body rested. For extra benefit, put some apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, turmeric, and cayenne pepper in it to stimulate your liver and help the process.

- keep cleaned and cut up celery, carrots, radishes, and grapes in the fridge for easy sacking. Do NOT eat “baby carrots”, which are treated with chemicals.

- make it a point to eat two apples every day.

- stand and walk when possible...at work, get in the habit of standing when on the phone or talking to others. At home, get up and walk during commercials, or after a book chapter, or during phone conversations.

- plant and eat your own food. Start with container fruits and vegetables like citrus, berries, tomatoes, peppers, and leafy greens. Put peppers and bush beans in your flower beds. Grow a bucket of potatoes. Grow organically! No synthetic fertilizers (Miracle Grow)! Organic potting soil and fertilizer only!

- if you drink alcohol, drink an equal amount of water before and after each drink to help your body flush itself out

- drink water whenever possible, and especially before any meal or snack. And put citrus, parsley, and cilantro in it for added detox benefits.

- work to double your vegetables and fruit intake while concurrently halving your meat and dairy portions. And when you get used to eating those proportions, do it again...

- choose your starches wisely....potatos are good for you! The butter/gravy/sour cream/cheese is not, but a large baked potato smothered with steamed or sautéed (in veg broth) veggies is a great low calorie high fiber meal! And sweet potatoes are an excellent choice as well.

- Cut down on processed food like stuff! Read labels and s is what you are eating. Avoid chemicals, corn syrup, and msg’s when possible.

- Switch to Himalayan pink salt, which is full of minerals.

- eat honey 5 times a week or more. Not a lot, but I am convinced a couple teaspoons a day will help build up your immune system. You can add it to your morning detox water.

- learn to fast and fast at least once per week for 16-24 hours. There are many benefits to fasting. Intermittent fasting is a great way to teach yourself discipline!

Give some of these ideas a try and PAY ATTENTION to what your body tells you. Some things will take patience and willpower, some will be easy.

I am working them all into my life, and will be entirely plant based in 2018 (99% there now...)

Here’s wishing you all a very Healthy and Joyful Christmas, and a New Year filled with great blessings!

I may drink a bit more than some, maybe less than others, but I do drink a lot of water,I can tell when I'm not getting enough,my lips dry up.

When we lived in Alaska, summertime meant lots of weekends camping with friends...we used to have 2-5 families and some friends who would all meet and have a great time. Lots of food and fun, and no shortage of beer. Since it never got dark, folks would often stay up into the wee hours. On friend in particular used to be the last one to bed and the first one up making coffee. Never saw him hung over, but he always had a beer in his hand at night, so one morning I asked him his secret. “Water...lots of it!” was the reply. He told me when he finished a beer, he would chug a 16oz water. And before he even started, he’d drink a pint of water. And after he was done for the evening, another 16-32 oz of water. And this guy could put away 6-12 beers in a night.

Today, he is still healthy and very active. He eats pretty good, lots of veggies, and drinks gallons of water. I think it definitely helps.

Hi, Buzz!

Good ideas!

Just a note... LOCAL honey, if possible... as it contains local 'stuff' to which the body 'acclimates'.

Best regards,
Bob

Absolutely! I only use raw, local honey. I buy it from my grocery store but roadside stands, farmers market, natural food stores, etc. all could carry something that works.

And local is subjective...just needs to be an area somewhat close with same type of pollens for best effect on allergies, but regardless, all pure honey is good for you.

Buzz, great ideas. We have been eating healthy for over a year, not that we ate unhealthy before. We cut out sugars, breads, and carbs. Joke around here is do you want a salad for dinner or raw veggies mixed up on a plate.

When fasting, adding a little cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and organic, minimally-processed REAL maple syrup to the water helps a lot.
It increases the detox effect, and it helps to prevent the mental sluggishness that can accompany fasts.

On fasts longer than 24 hours, these additions to water are especially beneficial.
