This is a good idea but if up in the hills it may not get a signal, when I go in the back country no cell service is available because of that I carry the microfix plb (personal locator beacons) there are cheaper plb's on the market that may be more suitable then cell phone, best thing to do is take your phone to where you plan to go in a emergency situation bol/camp spot etc.. and see if it works there if not then a plb may be a better option also, in an emergency cell sites may be down or overwhelmed thus the plb may be the only option.

Solar battery charger + rechargeable batteries + emergency power pack (using said batteries), and you'll be able to use your regular Smart Phone. This is pretty essential to me, as there are many places I go where you'll only have a signal if on Verizon. Not sure if a spare phone like this would even work on the ranch, as most other carriers don't.
