the pilot was in the process of landing during a training exercise when his jet suffered an “inflight malfunction,” forcing him to eject.

the pilot was executing normal, standard procedures when the crash occurred

the above excerpts from the Alaska News Source report do not add up.

Flying and landing do not occur on the flightline.

Definitions of flight line. noun. place where airplanes are parked and the maintenance hangars (but not the runways or taxiways)

On a military airbase, the flightline is also where the "on alert" aircraft are parked.
