Half the month gone by, and no mass shooter event. (Thank goodness). But I can't help but think that they are going to need to draw some heat away from this huge Syria debacle.

Posting this, so I can be so, so wrong, and folks can say "I told you so" to me for a change. That I was all worried about nothing.

All I can say is that around here if there is an inkling of a threat the sheriff department jumps in and off the kid goes to jail. Then we never hear another word so I don't know what happens after. I just don't understand why they don't harden the targets, I know most of the schools have done NOTHING for increasing security.

In our state, we mandated more armed resource officers, and they had to be beat cops (i.e. not just retirees). We also voted to arm trained teachers. Though not sure how well that will go over.

I’m all for arming teachers, but somehow solving a gun problem with more guns kind of makes me wonder. Just like any group of people, there will be some teachers that will be comfortable with ccw and some that should not be allowed to.

That problem has gotta be the absolute worse problem ever to resolve, we all know gun BANS are stupid. but some folks say arming more people is like trying to put a fire out by adding fuel to the fire. I hope you folks find a way to reduce the innocent deaths.

I asked my nephew and sister what has been done at the local school.
The reply "nothing" and they looked at me as if I had lost my mind. If no one takes it seriously then I suppose they shouldn't be surprised if something happens. I don't understand it.

Personally, I think the best solutions are to simply make the schools more secure. Perimeter fencing for all schools, limited entrances/exits, advanced metal detectors at those entrances (calibrated to only go off for a requisite amount of metal needed for a firearm and ammo, etc.), and electronic school lockdown features to contain a shooter and limit exposure for students. Couple this with special alarm sounds for an active shooter and other situations, and I think we can greatly mitigate the problem.

The expense of the above is FAR less than increasing the amount of armed personnel needed at a school. (and a lot less prone to a gun ending up in the wrong hands). This brings another point. EVERY gun that will be in a school (whether in law enforcement's hands, or an armed teacher's) needs to have a BIOMETRIC trigger lock on it.

I'm with ya.

I'll make it simple. It is always true that the best defense is a good offense. Period.

Arm competent people in every school. Allow CCW in schools, and without greater restrictions than in most states (person req'd to have a CCW license & training).

Mass shooters are cowards. If they know people will be shooting back, they go somewhere else. Now, I think all democrat conventions and politicians should be gun-free zones. That includes their security people. The main reason is that I want to protect them from being hypocrits, so let's see how it works out for them!

Haha! Yep, lets see them practice what they preach, and have gun free rallies...
