Have you been reading about Venezuela? Their power grid has been down for several days now. People are dying because their medical equipment isn't working. Food is spoiling because there is no refrigeration.
Looting is wide spread and getting worse. People are without hope and things are getting worse every day.
Venezuela was once the most thriving economy in South America. Then the Socialist gained power and the corruption robbed the people.
The President's daughter has amassed over $4 billion dollars and she has never held a job.
If people think it can never happen in America they are sadly mistaken. If the country doesn't turn around soon we will be following Venezuela down the toilet.

As you snuggle into your bed tonight, pray for these Venezuelan mothers and children who traveled 24 hours from the interior of Venezuela to escape the hunger in their country, which has now been without power for five days. Venezuela is sort of a caricature of the US socialist blueprint. It's economy - in 'normal times' - is Really Big Petroleum and big agriculture. The caricature makes the nation's persona that of a very pregnant scarecrow. Because the economy is so concentrated, the country's real world leadership is also concentrated. The government is for practical purposes dictator-fascist, not socialist.

True, but it seems like very short steps from one to the other. Some are always more equal than others

People don't learn.
Democracy leads to socialism, socialism leads to fascism / dictatorship, fascism/dictator leads to revolt.
Revolt leads to democracy and the same scenario plays out again.
Our constitutional republic is the best system to date but it is leading towards democracy/socialism. Our natural rights are all that can protect us. THAT is why the liberal/socialists want to get rid of them.

No, but that's a distinct possibility with all the "computers are down" crap that's been going around lately!!! Wells Fargo really got nailed a few weeks ago, was down for 4 days, and screwed up tens of thousands of debit cards.

I must have missed those 4 days, I never had a problem with my card.

We have also had issues with Australian banks going offline with technical difficulties but usually only for part of a day and not days on end. People must be getting peeved that it was for so long.

Yeah, especially if the gas tank was on empty, they have an empty pantry and fridge, no cash, and a caffeine addiction to feed.

On Pi Day I realized that one daughter had bought 2 pies and had eaten more than 3 pieces of pie total. She said it had to be.
Also, I have decided that tomorrow or Friday I am going to take apart the washing machine to find out why it's making the incredibly loud banging noise. I can do this.

Fortunately, there is a laundromat very nearby. I need to do my homework first. Like researching that particular model, the things that could be wrong, what it looks like, how to fix it, etc., which I have already done to some extent. Tired of the NOISE.

I've been thinking those kinds of thoughts exactly. Wiring is not my baby, so i'm hoping it is a belt or a bearing. Maybe I should invite my friend laura over (cuz she's strong), then before you know it her husband is here, then his dad, and all their kids. Ok, so no, I'm not inviting laura.
Sometimes when I start taking things apart it ends up feeling like...ok never mind. well, it feels like math = (lost and confused).

Where were we? Oh yeah, the washer.
Anyway, @backlash I appreciate your suggestions, it is proof I was thinking the right things. Research online, maybe youtube, take photos as I go along, make sure I have the right tools. NH has lotsa tools, but he can't help.

Take the back off and watch it run. I would bet the problem is pretty obvious. Hopefully it's a Maytag they're about the easiest washing machine to work on.
A bad bearing or a broken mount is a good guess for a loud banging noise..

@Patchouli also check beside the wash barrel if it is a top loading washing machine as quite often things like socks and underwear fling over the top and get caught and wind around the wash barrel mechanism at the bottom.

Also when I dismantling things I have a container and put the varying screws and nuts of whichever side they came off corresponding to the way I am facing it. It helps when putting it back together as to which side each piece comes off. Just one hack I find works.

I would personally invite a friend over. That way we could enjoy a cold drink together while we waited for the washer repair guy to put it back together.
I am not mechanically inclined.

Sorry, it is a front loader, so-called high efficiency. They use less water, carry more laundry.
I can't afford a repair guy and ordinarily my NH would be doing this cuz he used to fix anything and everything around the house. At least I have running water and a scrubbing board if things get desperate.
I ran one of my arms almost up to my elbow through the wringer washer once. Lol. I think I was 8. Didn't hurt much. My sisters fainted.

this is dumb. any replacement parts are expensive or no longer available through the manufacturer or online places where you can order parts.

It is not a Maytag, it is a Whirlpool.

Noise when tumbling with a front loader is a death sentence. You can't just replace the bearings because the support is formed around them. You have to buy the entire rear support. It is just as expensive as a new washer. I just replaced the front (only) drum seal and it cost $300 and some change. While I had it apart I resealed the pump and filter assembly. If anything more goes wrong with it I will get a new one. I just had to replace the drier because the heater relay went bad. You can't replace it because it is soldered into the logic board which is no longer available.
I shouldn't complain about it because I got 12 years of very good service from it. I do wonder about the IQ of an engineer that permanently mounts a mechanical relay on a circuit board. All mechanical devices will fail so you make them accessible and available. Mounting the logic board over the top of the drum in a drier is just not very bright. It is the warmest and moistest part of the drier. That is not an ideal location for a logic board.

Good luck with your washer Patchouli. After ten years they don't support parts anymore.

and it is 10 years old. Yeah, then it probably isn't going to happen. I guess we'll limp along until she goes kaputs. After anything I found out and anything NH found out, it's not looking too promising. I appreciate the sounding board.
