Aw... I miss seals & sea lions, I used to meet 'em all the time while sailing on San Diego Bay and offshore. They'd haul themselves out atop channel buoys to take a well-deserved nap, lol. Sometimes they'd cruise alongside, or off the bow or quarter, one sea lion followed me halfway up the main channel on a fine afternoon... quite friendly, and the snacks I threw that critter's way probably didn't hurt, lol. Sometimes I'd see seals & sea lions surfing waves just like dolphins, they're master swimmers & surfers, lol. During a walk on Silver Strand State Beach one day with a big swell running, I saw a dolphin literally EXPLODE from a large wave face (8' to 10', easy) and SOAR through the air for 15' or 20', it was incredible! The dolphin was 6' over the surface, just soaring along as a big ol' barrel closed behind the critter. That's why I always liked that stretch of beach, there were fewer people and the island views were magnificent, plus the numerous wildlife encounters were awesome! Dolphins & porpoises, seals & sea lions, all kinds of sea birds, that stretch of beach south of the lifeguard tower teems with wildlife!!!
