"German citizens will have to provide themselves with everything necessary for the first ten days in the case of serious natural disasters or war. It is provided by caught in the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine (FAZ) a new concept of civil defense of Germany, which the Federal government intends to discuss on Wednesday.

“The population is required to contain its own 10-day supply of food,” — says the concept.

In addition, people should take measures to ensure a supply of drinking water for five days at the rate of two liters per person per day.

In General, under the new concept, people should be able to provide themselves with food, water, energy and cash as long as the state will not be able to take these problems on themselves.

It is also noted the importance of reliable alarm systems, consolidation of buildings and the normal functioning of the health system.

According to the FAZ, in Germany a similar concept is introduced for the first time since the end of the cold war in 1989. It was developed by order of the Bundestag Committee on the budget simultaneously with the so-called “White book of the Bundeswehr, representing the national security of the country.

The 69-page document notes the low probability of an attack on Germany, which would require the application of traditional means of defense. However, security measures require the consideration of such threatening scenarios that can’t be completely ruled out in the future.

The current arrangements in this area, from the point of view of the authors of the document are unsatisfactory."

behold, this is something I was shown on a different forum....stock up,shut up and be prepared ;)

Interesting that the govt is calling for what all of is here have been aware of for a long time now. FEMA may be good at handing out bottled water and blankets, but I'm not relying on them to take care of much more.

Even FEMA doesn't start handing out water here until a few days after whatever maybe. . . look at how long it took after major hurricanes hit. At least the German government is 'trying' to get citizens prepared, but like here (when people know in advance a hurricane is coming), how many people will actually take that advise. I would think it would be commonsense. I wouldn't be relying on gobernment (yes, was a typo but thought the gober part fit so left it) aid.

we not only always had more then 10 days of food.we still had plenty of food left,by the time the next primary monthly shopping trip comes around.i agree on stocking up on more food, water, ways to prepare the foods,to what ever...i also agree about fema.i'll expect them to help me out about as much as someone on the other side of the ocean to help out.but what still gets me,to this day.the people who DON'T prepare for anything, and refuse to do so.and believe the gov will help out.even after seeing and hearing how things went, after a flood and/or a hurricane happened..

Our government through FEMA and the ARC have been telling folks to keep a minimum 3 day supply but just recently FEMA finally now saying a two weeks stockpile is more realistic here on the west coast (should be nation wide)
Personally I think 30 days is kind of weak, but I'm just an old prepper, so what do I know? I do know one thing for sure. If your cold and hungry and have no way to provide for you family, or defend them, that's a place I never want to be.
