Good News for Law Abiding Pennsylvania Citizens !!

Pennsylvania State Representative Aaron Bernstine (R-10) has introduced HB 1412, Pennsylvania’s “Constitutional Carry” bill.

What is Constitutional Carry ?

It’s the simple principle that you don’t have to ask the government for permission to carry a firearm for self-defense.

Representative Bernstine’s bill would affirm the Constitutional right of every person inside Pennsylvania to keep and bear firearms without a permit, including the right to carry openly or concealed, loaded or unloaded.

For those who wish, the bill includes an optional license to carry firearms that will provide reciprocity with any state with which Pennsylvania has an agreement.

HB 1412 also eliminates the restrictions on carrying firearms on public streets or public property in Philadelphia. And it removes certain knives from the definition of “offensive weapons.”

States that have adopted Constitutional Carry rank among the safest in the nation, as repeatedly demonstrated by states like Maine and Vermont that always rank near the top of the list of safest places.

In short, Constitutional Carry would make Pennsylvania safer and freer.

But gun owners in the Pennsylvania need to be vocal for Constitutional Carry to become law.

So please urge your state senator and representative to support Constitutional Carry -- HB 1412!

It's a growing trend, Michigan has proposed the same thing as well a loosening the restrictions. They want to eliminate the "gun free zone" crap, we would be allowed to carry in most of the places currently off limits, except for courthouses.

I'm not holdin' my breath though, we just got a DemonRat for gov. Although she was part of the Granholm admin when they finally made Michigan a 'shall issue' state.

We shall see.

Yea...I hear what you're saying.

But, Governor Wolf ( D-PA ) just don't care...it's about his political agenda...not the will of the people...who voted in the Republican majority last election.

Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that I strongly support the 2A. I support Constitutional Carry in theory and I believe Constitutional Carry is supported by 2A. I've not been without a carry permit since 2000, but I don't like the idea of needing any government approval to own or to carry.

However, it does make me a little nervous to be around people who are carrying but who know almost nothing about firearms.
Case in point: I went to the range recently with a person who has a permit from a state that requires no training or competency to get a permit. The person has been carrying for a few years but had never heard of the 4 Rules (Jeff Cooper's)! Accuracy was also an issue. In a real life situation, anyone standing within 5 feet to the right or left of the intended target would be in serious danger!

I have mixed feelings about such people carrying a firearm in public.

I think it's the owners responsibility, if they are going to legally carry a weapon for protection, to know the basic fundamentals... and/or seek training in the usage of a firearm before strapping on a gun and thinking themselves equipped to use deadly force.

I was lucky to grow up and be shown the fundamentals at an early age...which remained with me my entire life...then go through a professional training program to qualify to carry a duty weapon for the DoD.

And...yes RevV...it does bother me when I see idiots on the range and know it all's on the street who pretend to be proficient with a firearm and the ramifications of the use of deadly force.

I'll be an advocate for the idiots.
I would be happy to see them at the range because they will be learning.
We 'baby-boomers' that were trained starting at age 8 forget that the latest generation didn't have that luxury.
I was amazed when my niece brought her college-professor to the camphouse.
She (the professor) had bought a handgun because her husband had said she couldn't have one.
I was going to watch her shoot it when she casually mentioned: "I've never fired a gun before":bigeyes:.
Zero experience on manual of arms of ANY gun.

A couple of hours later, she could load, shoot, hit-decent, unload, and safety-off, not only her pistol, but also my .308 bullpup.
She was ringing steel at 200 yards with it and had a grin a mile wide.
"Can I shoot it some more?"
I had plugged a full 20-rd mag in it.
"You still got plenty of rounds; it'll lock the bolt back when it's empty", was my reply.
It was locked back when she handed it back to me.
She left there no longer an idiot, and a lifetime of liberal anti-gun propaganda went up in smoke.(pun intended)

There are people who know they gotta learn and do so willingly...not taking for granted that because they carry a firearm they are prepared to face a life and death situation...and all that entails.

And then there are the "know it all idiots"...who don't or rarely practice and yet feel they can hit their target under an adrenaline dump and not cause serious collateral damage during a serious self defense situation...those who are not only unprepared for that actual shooting, but the aftermath... and who are lulled into a sense of false security because they strap on a firearm and think themselves safe.

That is whom I reference in my previous post...

Shooting at a static range paper target does NOT prepare you for the reality of an actual gunfight, which most likely will be a close and violent encounter...where tunnel vision and sensory overload will be the norm...and only the gross motor skills of repetitive training...both with the gun and unarmed tactics...that kick in intuitively...will help you survive the encounter.
