Yeah so the intro might sound a bit vague....... I guess I have my reasons. I've been lurking here for a few months as I get things started. Seems like a place a guy can learn a lot, so here I am. Hopefully someday I can contribute something relevant that may help the next guy. I've owned a piece of property for thirty years with a hunting partner. Our hope was to someday put up a small cabin to use for hunting trips. Later it was agreed we also needed a bug out to escape the stress of everyday life. someplace simple and quiet. Unfortunately my buddy began his second battle. He beat the first 14 yrs prior. The day I took him to see his Doc he told me this time he was worried. I'm know the first time around his drive was to see his kids grow up. He accomplished that. I met him forty some years ago in the Fire Service. He was a career Paramedic and Volunteer Firefighter his whole life. Although younger than I he was my mentor and became a close friend. A few month ago I began what we had planned but never started. I hope he likes what we eventually will finish. Yes I said we. His Son will be helping me. I doubt it will ever be a true homestead for me unless of course these times get even worse. But I know it will be a place for my Buddy to Bug Out forever. The cabin will be a 14'x24' Amish building (I couldn't build it for what it cost) The road and land has been cleared, gravel down and the cabins coming soon. I'm heading that way in a few weeks to set pads and begin elec. that will be run off gen and solar. For now it will be heated with propane since the sq. ft. is rather small and I'm getting up there in yrs to be cutting a splitting wood. I'll post some pics when I get them downloaded. I'm not all that techno when it comes to puters, so it takes me a while.

Hello and a warm welcome from S.W.Oregon, you've definitely come to the right place, tons of great information and some of the best people I've come to know in all of the years I have been on the internet.

Welcome. Not sure where you are at, I would suggest some remote cameras and insurance for when no one is there. People here in Michigan have gone to buying these Amish built cabins for 'off grid', problem is people are stealing them once left alone. The last one stolen is about the size of yours.

Good point, I don't know how they work but maybe some of those apple tracking gadgets hidden on the building and pricy stuff that is left behind. I don't mean to have negative input, but people suck. It is hard to get set up, doing twice is even harder.

Greetings from far north west Canada...

Having your reasons..... for not listing a general location is OK.. But at least list a growing zone.. It helps to understand things you post... For instance, we are zone 2...

I have my reasons for the lack of noting location. Im pleased only a few responses seem to show a concern. At this early stage of introducing myself to a worldwide community I see no real reason where I’m at matters as much as who I am and why I’m here. Your mention of security is real for my situation. More so from my mind and level of concern. The local is not extremely remote. Cell service is available but limited.I’m looking into a cellular booster to improve this but that requires power even when I’m not there. My son uses remote trail cams for hunting in another state. They are battery operated and capable of several months of operation before replacement depending on settings. That along with an inexpensive cellular plan allows pics and real time access to cameras downloaded to your cell phone. Requires no contract and has proven pretty reliable. As of last Friday my cabin is set. So my journey has taken the next step. Security shutters, dead bolts and chains n locks only keep the honest, honest. Replacement insurance will be looked into today in case of the worst.I’m fortunate to have a small network of people who can mind the place and know the area. Personally myself, I

wouldn’t want them finding me in the wrong place. Thanks for your response. Everything you’ve mentioned I’ve considered. That to me means I’m on a good track and by all means keep the thoughts coming to keep me in check

Ok for those few that are concerned about my location. I’m guessing as my comfort allows that may change. Since I’ve posted a single pic I’m sure there are some more techno than I who may find where that pic originated if its really necessary to them. For me I’m just happy things are moving along.

Welcome from Eastern Oregon. One issue you might not have considered is forest fires. In my days in the mountains, I was evacuated four times. The best security is knowledge and having an evacuation plan. Also, security against crime is best if you live there and have good neighbors.

Thanks, I’m no real mystery just new and think who I am and why I’m here is a bit more important than where I’m at. Looking forward to watching your post!
I live next to a nexus that serves three good sized cities, I just plain lie about which one I live in full time, it would take a darn good hacker and tracert to find me, and when he did, chances are I'm elsewhere. :) a bonus being on the backbone of the Eastern US.
