Phideaux is the one who introduced me to bluegill. After one of his shoots, he took me on a tour of the area and we had some for lunch that day. I had never tasted bluegill before. They were quite good! They were fairly strong in flavor as I recall, although some of that could have been seasoning as far as I know. I like all kinds of fish. If it swims, I'l eat it. Yes, that even includes your beloved catfish (which I actually do love!)
I confess. I have been spoiled.
I like red-snapper and you only have to clean 2 of 'em:

He's not talking about 'blue-fin' tuna, he's talking about blue-gill bream:

I cleaned and ate about a million of 'em growing up.
Better than regular bream.
They rank right up there with catfish. :lil guy:
Best fried.
(Any of the above is better than tuna, which is cat-food)
I've caught, cleaned and eaten many fish in my life. If I remember right, that dorsal fin on blue gill is something that can put the hurt on you if you are not careful.

thanks for the idea of a baked potato. Haertig.i nuked one.added butter.shredded cheese.salt and pepper.no bacon bits.due to me needing to make some more home made bacon bits.
A baked potato can make for an inexpensive meal.

One of the things my daughter put on her prepping shopping list was potatoes for baked potatoes. She is a potato lover. Potatoes will last for a while, not long term. I had just gotten butter from Costco so I gave her two pounds of butter for her potatoes and other foods. I still have many pounds in the freezer.

Someone, maybe Caribou, said that if you were thinking about growing wheat, instead, consider growing potatoes for survival food. You will get much more food per plot, and it will be easier to grow, harvest, and process. Someone said they thought you could grow 10 pounds of potatoes in a 5 gallon bucket. I'm not sure that is true that you will get that many, but it is something to consider. You can get 5 gallon buckets, sometimes for free. Throw a potato that is sprouting in some dirt and let it grow.

Compared to a 10-pound channel-catfish dancing around in the bottom of the boat, stabbing everything with it's 2" long daggers, childs play.

Haven't gotten into any of our stores of anything. I've stored TP and other goods for years. We should be fine for years with that stuff. Foodwise, we are still eating fresh food before it goes bad, eating leftovers before they go bad. Mainly trying not to waste anything. We will open a can or bag of something as a side, but it's all stuff from our pantry, not from our stores. We have been ordering food online at Krogers or Walmart and picking it up to keep all the fresh going we can right now. We also add any thing we can get for storage out of that, or to replentish our regular pantry stores.
With whats in the freezers, I think we'd be good for 2-4 months on most stuff before we'd need to get in out stash.

Yes they are.

I'm getting ready to catch some from my pond..
Wish you could be here to eat some .

Jim
Times like this I miss work, Roger would usually bring in some bluegill from the weekend fishing, that's GOOD eatin.

Husband is having anxiety attacks over no steaks and more Kleenex. We have a case of Kleenex. He loves kleenes. We have other beef, just not steaks.
Get creative cooking the other beef or shoot a cow.
We got pretty good at the latter. We could take one standing on the hoof, to cut, wrapped, and in the freezer in 5 hours .
(Of course we had a well choreographed troop of hungry teenagers, a meat saw and hamburger grinder).

I had a serious cold in the last couple years. I had it for a while and finally went to the doctor. Doc called it something like the 6 week cold, but I don't remember exactly. I think it was the first time I went to the doctor for a cold. I used lots of tissues in that period of time, so I got a thing for keeping a good stock of tissues. I wish I had a case of them, but I am close!

He only likes the regular Kleenex brand. Not the scented, nor the lotion. He goes through a lot of it. Carries a handkerchief when he's out. I told him that I'll just wash lots of handkerchiefs. So he thinks we might be low on coffee, so he ordered from Sams, but it's only in store pick up and it's already paid for. So I guess I'm donning gear and going to Sams to pick up coffee this week. Might as well see what's there. If the lines out the door, forget it. We are not out of coffee. Steak, coffee, Kleenex.

We too have been living out of the pantry. No where near touching any of the long term stuff. We had beefed up the pantry a couple of weeks ago, so we were prepared for the lock down. Spoke to a friend this morning who was shopping this weekend. He said some shelves were empty, but he did not have any difficulty getting what he needed. Soup aisles, and of course TP seemed to be the emptiest.
