So I was reading about the shooting of the gamers yesterday.

Many of the gamers were totally unaware of the situation because they didn't hear the shots.

I cringe every time I see someone running or just walking with their buds in. They are totally unaware of their surroundings. It is the perfect scenario for a criminal.

When I am out, I don't want loud noises interfering with my hearing.

My husband and I saw a woman jogging and she was carrying her smart phone and the music was playing out loud. My husband thought it was strange. I told him she was being safe by not having earbuds in her ears. He then agreed.

This reminds of a college student who was killed by a crashing helicopter when he had headphones on and couldn’t hear what was going on.

Joggers have been mauled by bears in the area not hearing the breaking brush until the bear was on top of them.

Being aware with all your senses no matter where you are these days is important. There are no completely safe zones and to impair something as important as hearing is dangerous since a lot of the time you will hear before you will see something.

I never liked having some thing/one distract me when i need to be listening to something in the distance. There's a woman who jogs the road,of where i moved from.and she aways has her mp player or what ever going.and has to remove a ear plug to hear someone talk.that erritates me every time.

Were the hoodies for safety ?
Absolutely. They tend to limit their side vision and hearing when working around heavy machinery. During winter I'd relax that rule some. Most of the younger kids seem to wear hoodies more as a statement. It's beyond me to understand just what that statement is when it's 80 degs out. It just looks silly to me.
