Hi everyone! I joined in hopes of meeting like minded people. People that live the off grid or homestead lifestyle which both are my eventual goals. I’ve been living in Alaska for about two years now but planning on making a return to the lower 48 soon. I’m currently purchasing some land in southern Colorado so if that’s where you are I would love to hear about your experiences there.

Welcome from here Gettinby. We lived in Alaska for a number of years in the Palmer area, worked on the North Slope. My first time to Alaska was in 1975 in the Juneau/Douglas Island area.
We live 100% off grid here and raise much of our own food.
Don't know much about Colorado other than it's pretty much an extension of California political speaking.

Welcome from central Colorado, more the metro area. I have looked at land in southern Colorado and a few other places. I wish I had some land, but I do not I keep looking!

Thanks MT! I wish land was more affordable here because it is a beautiful state. I just couldn’t pass on the prices down there and I agree with the political but hopefully I can avoid all that being away from the larger cities. Fingers crossed.

Thank you! Don’t give up. I was just browsing when I found this site with reasonable prices. Kind of did it on a whim but I’m glad I did. Hopefully I can make something of it.

I think that is key; get as far away from any city as you can get. We live in a sparsly populated county of 2800 people.
Years ago the wife and I stopped in Durango and stopped in a real estate office. The guy was extremely rude and laughed at us when we told him how much money we had for land. That kind of soured us on Colorado.

I can understand that. Luckily the company I found has been great to work with.

Greetings from just west of Lake Superior..
I get weather reports from friends north of Anchorage and far northern British Columbia Canada saying winter is nicer there than here..
Enjoy..

There is an area that I have considered, by Fort Garland. The challenge with the land there is that the water in the area is bad and contaminates the soil. Someone has subdivided land into maybe 5 or 10 acre lots. I think they are 5 acres. I've known other people who have considered buying land there.
