Found the site through VideosbyDPF s YouTube channel.

Been prepping since 2010 and have recently been getting the comms end of prepping in order.

K7JLJ.com is my radio site and call.

Hope to contribute and learn.

howdy from another jim,and a Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed..

Welcome...sorry been working out of town in the big city of Ft. Worth this week. Please accept my late welcome.

Also sure you've been to the Comm site. Give Clyde a shout, he is very busy...but he is who I would bounce anything off regarding ARES and Radios.

Just habit and lifestyle now, seen enough crap in my life now to realise prepping is not only common sense, but self defence as well. But originally I became a survivalist in 1979 when I was still in the army and I thought global thermo-nuclear was very likely then.

Since 2010, probably a lot we can learn from YOU....LOL....

It definitely WAS very likely back then... We grew up thinking we'd see mushroom clouds on the horizon pretty much any given day. The modern generation just has no idea what that is like. To them, it is more likely they'd see an alien mothership over the White House than a mushroom cloud.....

If preppers were a word as it is today in the 1950s/60s I think half the Country would have been considered preppers with one goal in mind and that is to survive a nuclear war, the big difference today Vs yesterday, today we are looked upon as nuts and a threat by the population at large and that today we are hyperaware and by some borderline paranoia by the medical establishment, government and the majority of the population.

I learned from the daddy of em all Mel Tappan, and his clone Colonel Jeff Cooper, oddly enough both Merkins and decades on I still cannot fault their logic. Ragnr Benson chipped in as did the wonderful ( american) Life Free organisation.

I guarantee YOU will not learn from someone you think has nothing to offer.

Totally uncalled for "Gazrok"!

I think you're reading this wrong...the implication I made is that if he's been prepping so long, he probably has things to teach US, vs. the other way around. It was a total compliment!

Jim, it really was a compliment, giving you credit for knowledge you've already picked up, as well as experiences, & can share with the rest of us. After all....that's why we're here.

My bad then, 6 years is a short time for prepping by most standards so I took it wrong.

I've been an industrial electrician for 26 years but listen to even apprentices because only a fool limits his options IMO.

Either the info is good or bad, you get both from experienced and inexperienced people in my experience. :)

Please accept my apologies Gazrok

Hey! Me too! Mostly 3 phase 480v motors & controls. Feedlots & grain elevators & fertilizer plants...mostly. With enough of the other stuff (120/240) thrown in to keep it from getting boring. ;)

Hey Rob,
I started in the mines in 1990 and spent 20 years in a Particleboard / Plywood plant and now am at an Engineered Wood plant.
