Welcome.
It doesn't take a lot of money to get started, nor do you need to make your home look like a hoarder with mental problems lives there.
If money is an issue, consider flea markets, garage sales, and second-hand thrift stores.
Be careful hoarding things like propane and gasoline in your living quarters...for safety reasons. This also applies to other substances like solvents.
Get your dental work, vaccines, and birth control up to date. Start exercising (as much as your lifestyle and doctor permit) as much and as regularly as you realistically can. Store extra eyeglasses, if applicable.
Try to be aware of training in your area that may be marketable post SHTF. Training in areas like medical (EMT, LPN, and/or their Swedish equivalents), small engine repair, bicycle repair, vet tech, etc. can be had for very little tuition.
Try to be discrete when prepping, as you don't want a huge land army of starving, sick, desperate people showing up on your doorstep post SHTF.
Don't buy into the movie stereotypes of the lone wolf guerrilla. If you try any movie stuff post SHTF, you'll get killed very quickly.
Try gardening with whatever grows in your area, and try to use heirloom seeds. Heirloom seeds can provide seeds for next year's crop. Become familiar with crop rotation, compost piles, pests, and organic growing techniques.
I hope this helps.
All my best,
---Kevin
