I am 40 miles east of Tallahassee. Monticello is the post address. I looked up in SE Alabama when I was finding land but it was just to far away. I still have a home in Ocala and have 4 years to retirement at which time I will go full time in Monticello!

We looked in N. FL too. For multiple reasons we chose AL, one is the low property taxes and access to med care. But you're not that far out of Tallahassee and things you might not be able to find in Monticello.

Thanks for the invite,
I am a Ky boy, (really old man) .

I am a Prepper, a survivalist and a homesteader, to some degree.

It's a lifelong quest and never ceases. I live on 25 acres, woods, pastures, stocked pond, plenty firewood, and wild game.
Could go off grid if I really wanted to, just waiting for it to collapse.:D

Been retired since 2001.
Just me and my beautiful wife of 51 years.:)

OK, really old man I'm trying to do the math here. I suspect you might be older than me by a couple of years. So, in essence you're calling me a really old woman? :D I couldn't help myself. My hubs made me do it or the dog ate my homework is my excuses.

KY has some beautiful land. My gramps had a fish camp on the KY Lake for many years.

I'm on the North end of Ky Lake, a couple miles from Ky Dam.

Lots of fishing here.
Tournaments from April thru October.

Jim

I have tried more than once to find where the camp had been without success. I'm assuming it was on the West side of the lake but there was a road that ran by it that I watched military trucks drive down. In relation to the road the camp was elevated. Maybe it was closer to the dam considering the height of it. I am talking the mid 50's here. When we moved from there before I was 4, I don't remember ever going back again. Maybe he sold it. I know he sold it and got it back more than once.

Hi Jim, welcome to the site. We sure hope you hang around and bring friends.

Once, when I lived in the Littleton CO area, our house there had solar hot water, solar heat, and a wind generator. Back in the early 1980's that cost about $10,000 or more. I want to do that on a smaller size somewhere one day. And since late ex was, and I am a ham radio operator, we had a 100 ft sky needle in the front yard. (This was back in the days when we had a business and it was going well).

Nothing is the same anymore, It's all commercialized now.

You would not recognize anything.

Jim
That would explain why I can not find it by aerial photos. It's a shame if they ended up tearing down the log cabin my grandparents lived in. I don't remember enough about the cabins that were rented out.

Well you need some backup power sources.

I firmly believe the day is coming when we will lose our power grids.

May not happen before I expire, but it's coming.

I have a small scale Solar arrangement as ONE of my backups.
The sun is a fickle boy, diversity is a must.:);)

Jim, have you read the Going Home books by A. (Angery) American. AA really knows stuff and while those books are fiction AA puts a lot of good knowledge in there.
AA is Chris Weatherman and he and some other Survival people I read are at the FL Prep group this weekend.

Hi, came over from TF and looks good

Ham radio is awesome. My Grandpa Evilsizer talked all over the world. Made all his own HEATHKIT equipment too. He was WA8TBY.......

I love Heathkit. My Dad is a ham all my life, my hubby was a ham (deceased) and I've been on since 1972/3. I've put up antennas with Dad or hubby in the most miserable weather, because all hams know, if you put your antenna up in good weather it will not work as well.

In early 70s I was into it ,
Yaesu radio , beams at 50 ft,
Talked all over the world,
Got out years ago...don't remember why.
But I remember my call Whiskey Bravo 9 Victor Romeo Oscar.
WB9VRO,
CQ, CQ CQ,

Jim:)

I've seen it before quite a few times. Should I bet or not? Not. The system lagged when you hit post reply so you hit a second time thinking you didn't do it right the first time.

Looks like I'm the youngun for once....58 1/2..... I always use the half since it puts me only my 4 from retirement

Gloat all you want, you'll catch up to us one day. Usually sooner than you expected.

I'm usually the old guy. If it's any consolation all the really important people ever in my life were older than me. And so much wiser. I thank God for them every day.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that someone appreciates us old farts. :D

Grandma Evilsizer was the single most important person in my life. I'm a conservative bit I'm going to quote MLK. My grandma stood by this even as a hard core Democrat and I believe it's good for all. " Judge a person by the content of their character that's only part of the quote but it's enough for me.
