Hi everyone been listening to ktalk and doing my own research and decided it was about time I reach out and get advice etc. The current state of our country has my concern growing every day. Recently whitnessed the #enough walk in downtown slc and was shocked by how many sheep there where. The chants they screamed has left me disappointed and uneasy about the rest of the year. I come here in Hope of advice of what should we start doing. I recently got into a verbal argument over gun laws and had a clarifying moment that I was arguing with a mule. In fact most around me refuse to listen to reason, to history and are heading down a road that will repeat the past a road I refuse to go down. What do we do?

Welcome from a top secret location only 143 people know about. Analyze your needs and take inventory of what you have. Your families safety is the 1st priority.
Start with protection, personal and home. Get supplies, Guns, ammo, water, food, medicine, hygene. Then look at comfortable long term living.

What do you see happening with our economy and the general mindset of the public. Part of my concern is that gun control will succeed and then where does it stop? I know based on history that once you concede with one thing it's only a matter of time before more of your rights and liberties are also demanded would you agree and if soo is there any action we can take publicly or is it as futile as I'm imagining and the public has been so swayed that they won't be moved? Do we band together publicly or would that put us more at risk than help? I am preparing at home and my family as much as possible through my busy schedule. If possible to take more action to make a difference in willing to give it a go but I feel almost at a loss for the general public.

The vast majoraty 80% or so do not want the 2nd amendment repealed. They can chip away at it though and regulate it more and more in some states. I would suggest supporting local and state supporters of none infringment of the 2nd Amendment. If it gets to bad, then move to another state. The news media is falsly showing more support for this than there actually is.

Welcome. Since I am moving to Utah (SLC) in about 2 years, I sincerely hope they don't change the gun laws there.

Economically? Stagnation, and possible long recession as China growth slows, and a long period of uneasiness until the long term effects of current trade "wars" take effect. I just see either stagnation, or a long, slow decline. IMO.

Since we are the general public, I don't worry too much about the 2nd amendment. It takes more than most people realize to change or amend the Constitution. There will be some bans on devices, and possibly some state level bans on AR's that will go swiftly to court. And then, it depends on the states supreme court, and then federal supreme court.

Other than that, support the 2A by being a CCW holder, and a responsible firearm owner. NRA member if you so desire.

Support your local conservative canidates, if you have kids in the government school system get involved with their curriculum (better yet home school them), support conservative groups, help with voter registration, along with joining the NRA, consider joining the GOA (Gun Owners of America). I personally am not too worried about the economy, at least not in the short term (3-8 years). I do however, believe that a crash will happen someday. It's almost guaranteed. Nobody can predict with any certinity when it will happen, but IMO I don't see it happening at least until the Dems take over the presidency, senate, governorships, etc. I see that you live in Utah. That's already a good start.

Welcome, Kitkat.

In Utah, there are many Mormons, and my understanding is that prepping and food storage are part of the religion and culture.

I know they have workshops and seminars on the subject, so I suggest you get with them and, hopefully, share your findings and insights on this forum.

I could tell you what I think, but South Florida is quite different from Utah in both the environment and culture.

So, I guess my point is that a local from your area would probably be very willing to help you set up your prepping plan.

The LDS is a great place to start with food storage. Google LDS Food Storage Calculator. Put in how ma y people and how many weeks you are preparing for and it gives you how much of each item you will need. Keep in mind though, they are ones that cook homemade meals from scratch on a lot of things, including grinding their own grains so you may want to adjust to fit your family and lifestyle. Start with securing the basics first. Water, food, shelter, protection. Start with just three days, then a week, 2 weeks, etc and build up to however long you want. Have a garden to eat fresh and store. Save seeds for next plantings. Even if your in the city, most will let you keep chickens as long as you don't have a rooster. They can free range in the backyard and they love table scraps.

That's surprising Dr Henley. I don't personally know of anyone that is Mormon but I have read quite a few blogs on food preps by some of their women. Those women can be very useful when it comes to canning items that have not been government approved, but as always, you need to use your own judgement.

We were at a friend's house who was in LDS and I asked him about his food preps. Turns out he didn't have very much, not as much as I expected anyhow, and less than I have.
I have found the same problem DrHenley I have met many lds and unless your a much older generation most have not taken on the task left behind by their grandparents. I have gone to the storehouse because they have dehydrated foods and grains for a steal and along with canning your items.
