Same here, a pup has no chance with coyotes. It's been a few years since it happened but a cousin had several little house dogs. She'd sit on her porch sometimes and let the dogs play in the yard. One afternoon a coyote ran out of the woods, grabbed one and was gone before she could react. Broad daylight with her 20ft away! That's one of several reasons it's open season on coyotes in my state, by any means necessary!

After the little dog episode everyone for miles around shut their dogs up for a month. Her husband soaked meat in antifreeze and drove around dropping pieces of it beside roads in every direction. Don't know how many he killed but I rarely heard them for a couple years. Perfectly legal here... traps, poison or shoot on sight.

Hope the pup gets found quickly...

Got an email just now that there is a lost puppy in my area! He'll never make the night with all the coyotes! I let the ranch across the road know, and a friend who is very close to where the pup lives! I sure like that Home Again gets the word out! Prayers for this baby dog!!
There are so many lost dogs in my area. And when you have lost dogs, you have people finding dogs with no identification of any sort. No microchip, no tag with current contact information.

I have been told that microchipping has become much more reasonable in price. Someone told me that it is around $30 now. I think it used to be over $100 to get animals microchipped.

When daughter would get her ridgeback puppies, she would pick them up from the breeder, take them to the vet and get them chipped before she ever took them home.

There's always a danger of a pet not coming home when they are allowed to run. Predators do what predators do and take advantage of an easy meal, dogs get hit by cars, people shoot dogs that are harassing their livestock, and some dogs get lost or stolen. About a year ago some woman stopped in front of my daughters house and picked up her dog that was in her front yard. My daughter managed to chase her down and got her dog back.
Our dogs have always been chipped.

I'm not sure about now but some places in desert areas were prone to having their dogs go feral joining dog packs. People would shoot on sight due to the problems they created. Someone said they even had to shoot their own dog because it no longer knew them. Maybe something to watch out for if SHTF.

We fenced in a portion of our yard just for the dogs. We wanted to be able to let them out, and be reasonably sure they would be safe. They couldn't get out and nothing could get in. We have coyotes in the area, and a creek that runs behind the houses across the street. The coyotes will run through the creek and scavenge in the yards.

If I had a small dog, I think I'd put one of those Apple AirTags on their collar. That would probably be of limited use in rural areas, but could be helpful in urban/suburban areas. I hope they find the missing dog quickly.

I have two in Charlene, I have one in each of several of my guns bags/cases, I have one one my keys, inside my laptop, etc., etc., etc. I even have one mounted to a rail on a couple of my AR-15's, and yes they make picatinny and m-lok AirTag mounts. They work very well. So yeah, if I had a pet they would have one on their collar.
