Hi all

Got a question about hornets so i hope someone know more about them than i do. When the queen finds a good spot and starts a hive workers use pretty much any resources around them to build and expand. Is there some any kind of material they wont use, cant break and wont mind in the hearth of the hive?

Its related to prepping.Mainly staying hidden.
Can explain my train of thoughts if someone is interested but need answer too .

Thank you in advance

Good weapon if you get it to work I don't know of anything, I have never seen anything unnatural in a hive.

If you can get a way to cement it with something they cant dissolve, tape just wouldn't survive the chewing.

You could drill the limb or whatever it is attached to and Plug the hole if it is large enough.

My line of thinking is simple and only meant after SHTF. I have a pretty big plot of land and believe that best strategy is to not be found as long as possible. You can buy or make a perfect place for hive. These boxes if found by queen are perfect for them so they start building the hive. Before all that happens i put in the small box with a really simple remote controled vibration device. Hornets in my country are almost always peacefull and dont attack if not provoked but will defend the hive to the extreme. Plan is to put few of these around in good distance from me,add small camera and if needed just activate the box. Vibrations will drive em nuts. There are only 2 roads to me that can be used by cars so i just need to add an obsticle on the road to force the car to stop and ppl get out to clear it.

The ones here can fly 25km/ or 15,5miles per hour and chase you to about 2km or 1.5 miles. That can mean a pretty bad day. The sting hurts a lot but if the person is not alergic then there is almost no chance of it being lethal. So its just a good repelent on people

If you are gonna use a box like those for the Nest, just put the smaller box on the base and the vibrations will effect the whole box...?!?
Yeah the whole thing will vibrate so the effect is the same. But big part of the main thing is from materials they can use to recycle and work with. I need a material they cant break and use but at the same time they wont be bothered by it. If i make a metal case for the device then the chances of them using the main box for a hive are pretty small and the device needs to be protected or im sure those little *******s would break it too 😂

I had it once plugged on my house close to my balcony.

I did buy 2 cans with killer foam
You wait when it start to be dark brought a flash light
*I did put glasses a coat and gloves just in case..
the nest was quiet nothing was getting out or in
so I did spray the 2 cans inside the hole under the
nest ...the day after no more activity...and the nest
and wasps were dead...and started to fall on the ground so
I just did clean the **** and throw in it the barrel and make a fire ..
It was my Bye Bye sh***y good for nothing

Once there was activity where I mow grass ...tiny black little
wasps...I called George he told me * Wait for me I will fix the problem*
He arrive with 5 gallons of gas and just did pour quite a lot 🤣
in he saw and did show me where activity was ..the hole
LOL I can tell you the day after I could mow with NO problem
George is genial 🥰

"Furthermore, the outer surface of the nest is often covered with a layer of waterproof materials, such as tree sap or resin, to make it more resistant to water damage. This protective coating prevents the nest from becoming waterlogged during heavy rain, ensuring the safety and comfort of the hornets inside."

Interesting an informative Reading, Thanks for the Subject...!!!

All I know is that you DO NOT want to be stung by red paper wasps! It feels like you've been shot by a pellet gun with a red hot pellet.
Their sting is a 3 on the 4 point Schmidt Pain Index, just one notch below bullet ants. The venom causes skin necrosis and leaves a small ulcer.

The smaller black paper wasps are not nearly so bad.

Wasps are all different... If i attempted such here.. I'd find out the exact species name of the target wasp. A common name like 'hornet' isn't precise, could mean several species. Once i had the scientific name I'd search entomology data bases at universities with public access (common here). They will have the necessary detailed information to manipulate the species in question. What you're thinking of doing may not be possible with the species you have locally. Wasps are a different than bee's, not the same.

Honey bees can be manipulated/tricked into living in homes built by man. Pheromones can be used to trick them into taking up residence in a box. I have no idea where you'd get hornet pheromones. With bees you can do everything right, even get them to move into a box. That doesn't mean they'll stay, a few days later they might abandon the new hive for no apparent reason.

Good luck with hornets! Again, i'd start by learning everything possible about the exact species in question.
