What do y'all travel with? These are my must haves. The Dr peppers are in the cooler....

I've mentioned before that my overnight bag is always packed. I purchased some 10 foot long phone charger cords. The 3 feet long ones are just too short. I bought 5 and one lives in my overnight bag.

I am now thinking that I should add some things to that bag.

In addition to my cloths I take my EDC, bottles of water, CPAP machine, a large binder clip to hold the curtains closed, all my charger cords, a power strip, house shoes or flip flops, a cat5 cable, flashlight, extra change for the vending machines, Ice chest, and ear plugs. I'm sure there are things I have forgotten.
I had a door wedge with an alarm but I lost it.
My wife takes a suitcase and a large shopping bag full of stuff.
It usually takes me at least 2 trips from the car to the room to get everything moved.
I take all that if I'm staying 1 day or 2 weeks.
When I traveled constantly for work I carried all that plus tools and test equipment. There were times my baggage cost almost as much as my ticket.

Yikes!

I used to travel light with only what I needed to show up ready in the morning looking sharp and ready to go.

There was that one time I failed to pack a change of socks and having to wash and dry them every evening. That lesson stuck with me for all my travels.

My theory was...

The less I bring the less I was likely to forget when I checked out.

Thank God I haven't had to live out of a suitcase for almost 2 years now!

I started carrying my own smoke/co detector after staying at a hotel with one hanging broken off the wall. Then I decided to add the fire extinguisher too. I also have the 6ft extension cord because you never know where the outlets are going to be and if they will be where you need it. I have a thing about hotel bedding so I bring my own blankets and pillows. I didn't know until my sister was in the hospital a few weeks ago that my father does that too.

Adding blankets and pillows would be another bag, if you would carry them that way. I would for protection and maybe conveniece. Fire extinguishers are not a bad idea, but what size? How much does it weigh? Smoke detector? Not a bad idea. I think the extension cord is not a bad idea either, but this all adds up in weight and volume. This would make a bunch of stuff that I might accidentally leave behind.

I bought the automotive fire extinguisher. This way I have one in my truck that I can take into the hotel with me and I keep the fire alarm in its box to protect it while traveling. I go through through the room several times and check along the bed frames as well to make sure nothing is left and don't use the dresser or closet. I have a 2 bags, one for clean clothes and one that I roll up and store in the other that I use for dirty clothes. I have a cloth solid bottom tote thing I got from Albertsons that I use for the "extra" things. They get stacked on the floor board behind the drivers seat with the blanket and pillows on top along with the Kids/dogs bags. I also have a plug in cooler to keep food cold while driving that I can also use in the room.

You are well prepared!
I like being prepared like this, but I am not! This thread has me thinking about what I am missing.

I've had lots of practice over the years. Hubbys job has had us living out of cities in what some would call the boonies for the past 25 years so taking the Kid to Drs has always required driving long distances. For the past 9 months we have also added the weekly trips to Santa Fe for the service dog training. If I find I need something I add it to my "travel kit" so I have it for next time.

I have found that once I wanted or needed something, it goes onto my list for traveling. I remember driving between Kansas City and St. Louis as a young adult on weekends, and being thirsty on those long drives. The only thing available to purchase was soda or beer. I have never been much of a soda drinker, and really not a beer drinker. This was long before bottled water became a thing, but one of my thoughts was that being able to buy water in containers would be something I would purchase while traveling. I mostly don't buy it because I avoid plastic for beverages, but I take canning jars of water, and sometimes coffee or tea. I have go cups with lids, but I always end up spilling them. I take gallon jugs of water for dogs, but would prefer canning jars with lids for my beverages.

I don't like to buy the plastic bottles of water but I don't want glass to break in my truck. The kid has a quart size stainless steel bottle she uses for water. Dr Pepper is my bad habit. I figure there could be worse, useless shopping, alcohol, drugs, smoking.....

Sure doesn't look like my Shield, but I stand corrected, it sure ain't a Glock!View attachment 81050

Mine gets carried in the desert on an atv mounted holster, my hip or my old pick up every day for the last 5 years or so. It gets cleaned every time I fire it but its not a show room piece. It has scratches and dust from my daily carry. I also suspect you have better lighting, that table top is actually a very dark green.

My bang bang doesn't always get to go with me on my work trips. Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico and Failurefornia don't recognize my CCW so when I'm in those states it stays home. My essentials are my medicine, food, water, shampoo/body wash, and phone cords.

Depends on where I am going and for how long. I pack pretty light, and don't take much more than I expect to use. When I am packing I start from the inside and work my way out. Count the days plus one. Shoes will be dependent on what I am doing. My Dopp kit has all toiletries I need even if the hotel has nothing. If I am driving my EDC bag will have the five C's plus security and electronics, and I have considerably more in my car. If I am flying there are a few things that have to be left home.

I don't pack any drinks, and very little if any food. I have been traveling extensively for over 40 years both domestically and internationally, and I have yet to be in a place that didn't have food and water, and I have absolutely no intention of going to any place that doesn't have food and water.

I have a "fag bag" as well as a carry kit.
In it is a chopped 45 auto and two clips
a Buck 110 and a 3" utility knife of unknown origin.
condoms/ roll of gauze, medical tape/ Band-Aids
Alka-Seltzer/ aspirin/ 5 packs of goodies powder/ Rolaids
1 bottle containing 3 days of the meds I take, electrical tape
zip ties, a cheapo tool kit, and obviously, being a shaving kit
two disposable razors, a lump of alum, a Nebo tac light and shaving soap.

The carry kit varies each time I go out, but the standards are
3 complete changes of clothing, a mini med kit, a pint bottle of
Johnny Walker black label or Dewar's, a tactical light+ batteries.
the rest is trip dependent.
I need to throw in some go-bars and Gatorade.

I carry food/water because of the Kids diet issues. Her health is the reason for 99.9% of my overnight trips.

Makes sense. We had snacks and drinks when we traveled with children. 99% of my travel was alone, and for business.

IMHO much of what you take will be dependent on the type of trip, how many people are traveling, and how long you will be gone.

I will always carry a case of small bottles water in my car when I travel.

When out on location at disasters with the Red Cross, our cars carry 2 cases of water, a case of MRE's, a first aid kit, 2-3 blankets, a roll of caution tape, and 3 traffic cones, but is specific to my position.
