We have a lot of doves around here this year. They like to hang around the chickens and the bird feeders. They also hang around our water tanks and the pond.
I haven't hunted doves since I was a kid.

I always start my hunting seasons with a few Dove hunts . Nothing special needed . I just set up a camp chair in the back yard .
I like fried dove .

As soon as it starts cooling off some I'll start grouse hunting.
I guess it's archery deer season around here. There's already some ******* flatlanders camping out by our lower gate. No way would I ever hunt deer in hot dry conditions like this.

We used to grow soybeans loaded with millet on 30 acres behind a insurance salesman we knew house. Had to have it cut and baled before labor day which was opening day of dove season. Any of his clients that wanted to hunt were welcomed. So were we.
It was amazing watching them fly up as we mowed, raked, bailed, and got up the hay. I spent many hours each of several years in that field prepping, planting, and having it. Much of it alone. What a wonderful time that was. Hunting it was icing on the cake

I have been told by people that are quite proficient wing shooters that dove season is great practice and warm up to other upland game seasons.. Saying that by the time you get good enough to get a few doves during the season, you will be a much better shot when other seasons open..
