What I am shopping for is non-combustible "SPACER" between the pot and the heat source. The stove, even at lowest setting is still too hot.
My bad for recommending the rubber ones. I thought you just wanted to put a hot pot down.

What's your heat source? I've seen people take the burner grates off a gas stove for this purpose. If you don't have a scrap yard with grates around, I think you can buy them for about $15-20.
Here's what I'm talking about.

I am looking for "Different" spacers/trivets that go on top of what you show.

I have two styles, nothing fancy, cheap, simple. The round ones rest on 3 points. The one on the right rests on 4 points. I like the 4 point ones best. They seem more of a solid base for heavy cast iron or big pots. I've never had an accident with either so both work. I'm just more careful when I use the round ones.

OK.....I don't think the heat source really matters. In my situation it is a large newish Natural Gas stove. I like the stove, but the smallest burner, if turned all the way down (but not off) is still too hot for long term simmering or sub-simmering. Open flame, need to elevate pot higher above the burner.

How many inches high above the heat source do you need it to be?

There are wok rings (which I personally would not use for safety issues - I don't find they're stable enough) - most of them are only 1.3 inches high above the heat source, so not very high, and the tallest I know of is 3.5 inches high, that's this one pictured and might be suitable for your purposes:

Barring using something like that I'd suggest you could do what I have done on the stove on occasion, (or even outside over a firepit too) which is:

Place 4 to 6 small bricks (standard size @ 3-5/8 x 2-1/4 x 8") on the stove top and then place an oven rack on top of the bricks. Place the cookpot or frying pan on top of the oven rack, above the heat source. Very stable that way, just be careful to not touch the oven rack with bare hands by accident because it does get hot all over.

What you are looking for is a heat diffuser for cooking; not a trivet, which is what every one is showing you. Amazon has lots of different ones and you can try gourmet cooking supplies if that doesn't suit your needs.
You are 100% correct. Sorry for my creating confusion. Thanks for getting us "ALL" on the right track.
