I'm looking to start a homestead. I'm tired of just surviving what's thrown at me. I need to plan and prepare more. I think a homestead would be the place to do it.
Welcome from Kansas! Where are you looking for a homestead? Lots of great ideas on this site. Homesteads are great, but a tremendous amount of physical work. It has not gotten above 7 degrees where I live, and taking care of farm animals has not been pleasant today. Just what we have to do.

Howdy neighbor!Welcome from Idaho, formally Alaska.
I'm new here too. This looks like a great site.
If you can raise pigs, raise the pigs. But raising pigs takes a lot more of everything - more facilities, more fence, more feed, more work. The amount of meat you'll get should be worth the trade off though.I'm getting chickens for eggs and meat. Should I get pigs or rabbits for more protein?
