this is not a political thread to bash 'them' ...its about prepping..have goods stored various ways and be a producer of goods ..no matter how small amount..anything will/would help at this point.some disasters last a long time...so plan as best you can..rethink the term..long term stashes/cache !

I read an article a few weeks ago about how women...moms and even school teachers were crossing over the Venezuela border to earn money prostituting to buy food. Sorry, can't provide a link, but how sad is that?
I would think there would come a time when things get bad that money is useless. Goods for barter or skills would be king. Too bad these people probably didn't have either.

i read that article too...at this point i believe its just about survival on day to day bases for many.anyone could be in a severe situation at any point i believe. food,water,shelter....daily needs repeated over and over.

They have been struggling for a while, haven't they? I knew a woman who was from Yugoslavia. During the war there, a bunch of soldiers came to where she was. She was in the kitchen cooking potato pancakes. They told her to keep cooking and she said she cooked for a long time. Another woman who was there, was very attractive. She was taken somewhere, probably the bedroom, and men lined up for a turn with her. I am sure I would rather cook potato pancakes, than to be the attractive woman in the bedroom.

If your location cannot provide you food (continued supply - not just stored food), shelter (comfortable and environmentally stable), and security (defensible from outside forces), then it is just a stop gap measure. When money is only good for waste removal, then you need to provide ALL your living requirements and be able to defend yourself and your assets. It has happen in other countries and we don't have any special protection from it happening here. Venom Jockey and Pess have a real good start and I am making plan to make it happen for my family. A bug out location that does not provide for LONG LASTING living is just a way to delay the inevitable. JMHO.

I have seen this in some movies, the war comes and the family heads to the cabin in the mountains or in the country somewhere. Developing such property takes time and work. It is something I have wanted to do, but there are always challenges.

I read a survival blog years back written by a woman. She mentioned that there are ways to make your self 'uglified' to reduce your risks of being the camp bicycle when SHTF. If you look less like a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader from a distance then there is a slightly smaller chance of being taken for a ride so to speak.

after reading the above and you think a year o three of food reserves is alot...well you need to go back and have another look and then google or bing some pictures taken during this time and/or whats going on in Venezuela right now..especially hospitals there.

you gotta get your head around what is a long time for food storage.right now in this situation if you had put back 3 years of food and started using it you are out of food now and the real crisis is just beginning there.dont be so fast to crack open goods and have at it,or giving out to others so fast and easily.you need to make decisions on the fly as this type thing is going on...your life may depend on it.when this started it would be hard to stand in line for goods knowing you had xyz amount in storage..but in truth its for when things get hard...as long as it was sorta safe i would be out blending in getting food for 'now' and putting off opening long term stored goods.this will take extreme mental discipline. but its gotta be done or else true struggling to keep from deaths door will/might get you. its a game of life and death.

also you need to unwrap your head from ego and get modern day yard concept out and get food production in it.every item can be item to be used..shade trees...maples for sugar/syrups. apple trees and nut trees as well. yes they are messy when mowing but so what..get over it.

The Venezuela Gov is only allowing 1 family member to cross. It was in a news story a while back.

I'm sure they have tried. I'll try to find the article that said only one family member was allowed to leave for shopping to stop families from leaving.

Pess and I think Venom Jockey, are all in agreement that none of us would trust in a MAG. Too many things to go wrong. I am not willing to put my trust or families safety in the hands of unknowns. Spending a weekend training with people is not the same as family. Friends or neighbors are not family. People that do not live with you or your family do not have the same vested interest in your survival. voice of experience...all family is not trust worthy...even on minor stuff.

blood doesnt mean family to me...but time spent together over years and years...there only will be a very few you can truly trust.they can be counted on a single hand ....

I have been prepped since 2011. My family has moved onto sustainable ground on private property that is paid off. This property is perfect for growing food. Throw the seeds in the ground and they grow. Livestock surrounds me. I have multiple water wells. I also own land in the mountains within one hour drive, off grid with a cabin on it. It is NOT sustainable ground. In order to grow food there it would have to be raised beds, and soil for the beds would need to have the rocks screened out. That is quite a lot of work. Water to grow the food would also be a problem as the only water that high up is rainwater and would have to be caught. Sure, there is wildlife there but I'm pretty sure it would be scattered and run off within a month. The only reason I would move to my high ground is if enemy were coming up my road. One year of food stored is not near enough. If your first year crops fail you will starve once your stored food runs out with no crops to harvest...then what? Most likely if your garden is not already up and running it will fail the first year.

I spent 5 years working my butt off on a property that was for a MAG. It failed due to OPSEC failures. Members come and members go. That is all it takes to kill a MAG. As was stated above family is usually the best bet but they are not trustworthy to keep opsec either. Network and live near other like minded, self sustainable people. Keep your preps secret from everyone. Each must have an iron in the fire. Each must have their own. I will never attempt to do a MAG again.

All of this coming soon to a neighborhood near you. It's unavoidable and a matter of when not if. Fiat currencies have a 100% fail rate throughout history. 100%. And for the first time in the history of man and society all the world currencies are fiat currencies doing the same thing at roughly the same rate and time. Scary. Good to glean lessons learned from the examples available to us. It's gonna be epicly awful when the dominoes topple.

A MAG is a group of like minded people that agree to help each other in times of disaster. There is usually a piece of property that they have fixed for the group. Typically there is a requirement that each member provide enough provisions to feed their family for an agreed amount of time and store these at the BOL . There may also be requirements of common training and specific firearms.
