I've downloaded a ton of videos from you tube using 4K downloader. https://www.4kdownload.com/products/videodownloader-42 It's free, though you can upgrade to a fancy paid version, and I find it easy to use. I just go to the video I want, highlight and copy the current site in the navigation bar, then click "paste link" in the 4K app. It takes it from there.
I haven't used it for a long time, so before posting I went in and tried it again. It allowed me to download an Inspector Morse episode from you tube just now. I didn't watch the entire video, but did open it up and test it and it seems to be fine.
I do have youtube premium, my daughter and I share a subscription and since 90% of my tv watching is on youtube, it's worth it to be ad free. I use Mozilla Firefox and I have Nord VPN.
