"Shamrock" comes from seamróg which is Irish Gaelic for young clover. (diminutive form of the Irish Gaelic word for clover - seamair )

For all intents and purposes, clover and shamrock are the same thing.

That is true I was having fun with word play given the Irish have a differing opinion, they call what we call 4 leaf clovers fakes

So much for me surviving on local edibles then. I didn't know there was a difference between a shamrock and a clover!

Well, lucky for you both shamrock (clover) and false shamrock (wood sorrel) are edible. Just be careful with the red clover as when it's mature, too much can cause bloating.

If bloating occurs just take a couple teaspoons of baking powder. It taste like crap but will relieve bloat and won't kill ya.
