a "regulation baseball bat maxes out at 34". Weight 2.2# to 2.6#

I always have dozens of walking sticks under construction. As by product of that I end up with a lot of "cut-offs" that make good "thumpers". All I did this past summer is make & perfect baseball bats & fish bonkers & attitude adjusters & socially acceptable hand-tool for answering the door.

I make thing that look like baseball bats that are four or five feet long. Actually, finishing up one that is 66" long. I discovered that instead of cutting down a tree, it was better to dig it up with the root wad intact. That way after trimming the root wad of feeder roots. I can have bats with larger ball on the end.

I also make some spears. Yes, I have nothing better to do. Anyway, it is easy to make defensive things (tools) from trees.

The Irish make a club out of blackthorn root ball. It's called a shilileigh. The NA also made a club from a root ball called a war club. The root ball was literally carved into a ball and then burnished. They preferred iron wood or hop horn beam
