This coup may be good news if the reports are true, Erdogan been moving the country closer to islam upsetting the Military and also Erdogan has been moving closer to building ties with iran again upsetting the Military, if all true than it may be good news.

So the coup failed, this could be bad because the military are very pro SECULAR CONSTITUTION types and Erdogan is a galloping Islamist totalitarian. So I expect Turkey to move even further away from being a westernised democracy and more towards being fundamentalist Islamic, But hopefully it will lay to rest any chance of Turkey joining the EU. FYI did you know that Erdogan has been trying to have foreign journalists and commentators in other countries arrested for being critical of him.

Apparently the coup isn't cut and dry thus the coup wasn't really about democracy or maintaining a secular Military.

I hadn't seen anything about power and water supplies to the us base cut. I was suprised to learn there are dozens of tactical nukes on that base. What moron thinks it's ok to store nukes in a country that hates the West and wants to send the world back to the dark ages....

Will never happen, not while he keeps on being one of ISIS' main customers. Really wish this coup would have worked. It may still...as his reaction is likely to be swift and brutal (these guys are easy to predict), and may step on enough toes to warrant a little coalition action.

Sorry been out of pocket to add my thoughts. We lived in Turkey and still have friends there. A very sad day both for the nation of Turkey and for their military. Their will be a wholesale purge of the brightest and smartest of Turkey's military leaders. So don't expect them to take the fight to ISIS.
