An old thread resurrected.
I've lived without electricity, without running water, without proper shelter, without a whole lot of things.
The one thing I absolutely could not live without would be a military surplus .30 caliber rifle. And not an intermediate caliber like 7.62X39. Not a late model commercial rifle.
An M-1 Garand, a German Mauser, Springfield M-1903, something along those lines. It will protect our farm from predators, it will be a comfort in the night. In fact I do have those listed, and others.

Around here? Knucklehead, my furry son. Besides great company...he's sharp enough to see a snoike way before me...knows who's coming because he knows engine sounds...and...if he gets up...ridge of fur standing up along his back, barring his teeth and growling...it's prolly my ex!

Who's a good boy! WOOF!

Interesting comments. I'll play. Give me a Kbar, a .45 and a 4 wheel drive and I'll survive. :) Maybe a woobie and a poncho. But as I get older I like my luxuries. I'd miss refrigeration, our king size bed, running water. City sewer is handy. I managed without a garage door opener my whole life until we got this home. And electric gates are nice too.

And our bowl of water for the wild critters. We have a steady stream of bunnies, squirrels, road runners (beep-beep). They seem to each have their appointed time. Kitty watches from her window.

I am pretty found of my big old hickory knife. I prep meat, flip meat, stab meat and eat meat with it. I am sure it could do more if I needed to. I wonder if I could weld on the parts to make it a bayonet too? This feels like a potential business idea. I better shut up now.
